#1 Postby willjnewton » Mon Jul 31, 2006 2:00 pm

a weatherman emailed me today from noaa and his name is vernon kousky who's encharge of the whole climate prediction center and he said the eastern pacific has warmed rapidly the last couple of weeks BUT THE EASTERN PACIFIC IS STILL NEUTRAL AND GOING TO BE NEUTRAL FOR THE NEXT TWO MONTHS AND THIS HURRICANE SEASON IS STILL GOING TO BE VERY VERY ACTIVE...does anyone think that this hurricane season is going to pick up or get more active in mid august and last untill when???

Hey will,

It very well may pick up. There are some likely areas of development now. Happy tracking. :D

I used to work for NOAA, and, checked the employee finder, but, did not find anyone named Vernon Kousky...

It seems unusual that someone would e-mail you a statement like that, unless you e-mailed someone directly (even then, NOAA employees are not allowed to make statements like that, since they could end up being erroneously quoted by the media) - perhaps this person works for a University - he doesn't work for NOAA...

After last year, this year may seem quiet but this is NORMAL. Storms generally form later in the season, neutral or not.

There's a Dr. Vernon Kousky with NCEP.

Will. You seem decent, but if you haven't gathered, you're annoying a lot of people on this board. I do not want to kick you off, or get you in trouble, or attack you personally, but let me make some firm suggestions.

1) You'll be taken a lot more seriously if you use correct grammar. Try capitalizing your sentences and stop "yelling" sentences in all caps.

2) Instead of starting a lot of useless threads, why not start one "Will's Question's" thread. I guarantee you that once we have several hurricanes going, this board's going to get really busy and your new post for each question will get you in trouble. Every new post displaces an "Info" post on Invests, TD's etc. There will be too many different threads to keep track of. Not to mention, few people will ever bother to respond in your new threads when so much is happening. Join a thread appropriate to your question.

3) Read through the last 3 pages of posts. 90% of your questions have already been answered. I would encourage you to join in an ongoing thread. It's not how many threads you can start that are important; it's the content and presentation to what's happening that's important.

4) Blanket statements about what will or won’t happen with the rest of the hurricane season will get you in trouble unless to back them up with solid science, i.e. satellite data, SSTs, SAL etc. Feel free to offer an opinion, but make sure it has some basis in facts. The best scientists in the world still can’t tell us for certainty what will positively happen from day to day. The best advice anyone can give you is wait and see. No one has been able to predict with any accuracy what will happen in the future. I say this with a reason. There are many people out there who visit this site not knowing anything about what is happening in the hurricane season. By making a blanket prediction, without the S2K disclaimer and solid facts, you are potentially endangering peoples lives. That’s why the disclaimer is mandatory for future, non-official forecasts.

I joined this board knowing next to nothing about hurricanes and I freely admit to still being green in comparison to many of the people on this board. I've found that just lurking around and reading posts of people who really know their stuff, you'll start to pick up things quickly. Again, I'm not trying to tell you off, I'm just offering some friendly helpful advice. If you're not sure when to find info, please feel free to PM me. I may not know where to find it, but I might be able to point you in the right direction of whom to ask.

Hope this helps,

Rieyeuxs

Even if you don't like what he is posting it doesn't mean that it's wrong for him to post. Obviously he is genuinly interested in the weather and hurricanes and wants to learn more. I have been on this site for a while and have noticed a few things along the way. When someone new comes on the site they are not quite sure what to say or how to act. I think to initially be heard they automatically just start posting to get some reactions to meet people and make some friends.

I'm all for that... it is hard to find a good place to post at and even harder to maintain. So lets keep it nice for all the people out there that are new, experienced, professionals and whoever else comes to this site.

If people are mean and negative it makes for a very negative atmosphere.

Quickly for example lets say you were searching for a good weather forum to go to and you stumbled upon a site. You went in and started reading the threads. People were being mean to other members and a negative attitude ruled. Well how likely are they to come back... also how likely are the people who come here just to get information to come back for more. So if you would like the site to keep running and have a cool place to go to where you can meet people and discuss the ever constantly changing affects that the atmosphere has on this Earth.. maybe you should think before you post and if you feel like you shouldn't say it.. well don't.

Bingo SouthFL. You hit it on the head.

I don't think I've formally welcomed Will yet, so I'll do it now. Welcome and enjoy it here!

It also means that you don't have to read his posts either. Noone is pushing the mouse button for you to open his threads. You can also scroll past his posts if they are that annoying or "above" you.

Great suggestions Rieyeuxs and SouthFloridawx! Thank you seawing!
