Ok guys; it's official. The models are now even initializing with the title "tropical depression 3". See the new thread started by cycloneye for more details on this 3rd system of the year!

IIRC, the six weeks from Aug. 1st thru Oct 15-ish is the:
"Core of the Hurricane Season"
Right? So, if that is the case...........Tomorrow is August.............First!!!!!!

I think the upper level divergence it encountered today is what gave it that extra octane for the convective burst. However, if the shear does not abate and it outruns the upper level divergence and gets enveloped by that dry air, TD3 might be a very short lived storm as it will not be able to maintain its convection. The one positive for TD3 surviving is that there is upper level ridging ahead of the storm which will mean less shear if it can get there.
