But on a serious note, it wouldn't suprise me to see NHC go to 50 or 55 MPH at 5pm.

Agreed and that's why I think it is perfect timing that recon is going back in now.

The only problem is that the advisory will most likely be sent by the time they reach the center, which will not occur in the next set of obs, but most likely the set after that, i.e. the vortex will come out right around 5pm.

Not possible. 50 mph seems a definite, unless recon finds stronger winds soon.

Due to rounding, you usually don't see 55mph in an advisory. 45 knots = 50mph rounded to the nearest 5mph, and 50 knots rounds to 60 mph.

I'm going 45 in the nwhhc update at 5, unless I see some additional recon data soon. Surface estimates don't cut it

Can I just say, I wish they would post in MPH or all of us lay people just switch to KTS... At least we should speak in the same terms. And why have hurricane categories based on MPH when we get reports in KTS? "Can't we all just get along?" :) :)

Would you be suprised if a Hurricane watch was issued?
