South Florida is clearly in the cone, it extends all the way up to Cape Canaveral.....I would prepare

what preperations have you done today?

I'm not particularly concerned, but I will take some basic precautions. I'm leaving town tomorrow afternoon through Sunday evening (Monday or Tuesday, if Chris behaves badly  ). Before I leave tomorrow I'm going to bring my grill and lawn furniture into the garage. If I was going to be here I'd leave it out until Saturday or Sunday at least and decide then what to do. I'm also going to fill our cars with fuel in case the power is out when we get home Sunday (or whenever). Other than that, I'm just chillin'. The only way we'll be significantly affected is by a backside hit if Chris goes in north of Miami and comes out in our area, and the backside hits here just aren't that big of a deal, especially from a small storm like Chris.

Chris is expanding if you haven't noticed. I predict a formidable CAT 3 before getting to Florida.

Taking a wait and see attitude

The Town of Jupiter is monitoring Chris but we are not ready to activate our emergency preparedness plan. We're hoping it will miss us (three hurricanes in two years is enough) but if it goes farther north than anticipated, we'll be ready. We know exactly waht needss to be done to prepare. We just hope our residents have already purchased most of what they meight need. Doesn't everyone do that at the beginning of June anyway?

I think we in Jupiter are far too north to get anything bad, even if Chris comes into south Florida. Maybe TS gusts. Good idea to be prepared though, just in case.

probalby Jupiter is okay but they are still well within the cone by 150+ miles so you should respect that. I think once you are out of the cone you can let your guard down...

I believe" Preparedness" should be in everyone's everyday vocabulary and not just during hurricane season. There is too much going on in the world today not to be prepared.

I just came from the grocery store (my boss had an emergency need for pretzels). I was amazed at the amount of people in buying CARTS of bottled water. I'm in Martin County and we've been a little shell-shocked over the past couple of years, but I wasn't expecting the rush that I saw today. Maybe people just sort of woke up to the fact that they haven't prepared yet at all?

Jupiter may be a little far north right now, but you never know... Only time will tell where Chris will go.

What do you guys think about Lake Worth / West Palm area?

According to the latest visible satellite loop (http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/carb/loop-vis.html), Chris appears to be taking a more due westerly path. This is a good sign for South Florida.

I just went to BJs to get some water and other stuff I needed for the house, and to fill up the car, and it wasn't too busy. I saw people buying regular stuff, but I saw a few people with cases of water and 3-packs of Clorox, so there are some getting prepared. I just feel better knowing the major stuff is done, and at the last minute all I'll have to do is pick up a loaf of bread and get some cash...not too bad in my book :)

It's called "stair stepping" not a true westerly track.

Timing is bad for me. I'm going to Tallahassee tomorrow. Scheduled to return home Sunday afternoon/night. So a Chris hit on Sunday would throw a spanner in the works.

IF it looks like it's making a beeline for us, I may do a Saturday night drive home, after the graduation and dinner.

If it would even delay one day, I'd be happy. I'd be happier if it skips us altogether.

I'm not sure whether to put up my 3 windows worth of silver shutters or not. The rest are all the shut-click-lock type and can be done in 10 minutes by my brother, who lives nearby.

$*#@ hurricane. Pain in the butt.

Pro Mets, Derek Ortt - what are you thoughts now as Chris is strengthening about a South-FL hit?

My partner works 12 hour shifts Thursday - Saturday, and I don't drive, so we did our grocery shopping (we usually do Wed. anyhow) and stocked up on food and water (along with pet supplies... We have a lot of pets). Going to get ice started (ziplock bags full). We've got so much going on right now, that I'd rather be prepared well ahead of time. I'm weary, we're moving to Ohio at the end of September and I hopped (yeah, I'm no dummy, but I still hopped) we'd get off scott-free, but I should have known better. I have awful luck.

South Florida please complete your preparations. I'm not so sure it will not be a direct hit.

TAFB has "Hurricane Chris" way north of the islands and on a beeline to Florida in 72 hours:
