Andrew at one point in it's adolescence as a tropical storm, lost it's low and midlevel circulation, leaving an upper level circulation with (if I recall correctly) 45 knot winds, and an astonishingly high pressure at the center of 1017millibars. Along with the loss of the lower circulation, the convection diminished, leaving a near naked upper atmosphere vortex.
