Nope. It's caused gridlock, chaos and anger.

It's just so terrible. Let's not doing anything, let the planes blow up over the ocean and see what happens then.

Hmmm.. what are your sources?

I watched it from very early this morning.. before 3 AM Central US Time and the reporters within the airports were interviewing people and they didn't seem upset at all. Of course that may have changed.

Just search airports long lines on google news. And the UK airports are nuts right now.

Allowing people to carry-on toothpaste isn't going to bring planes down over teh Atlantic.

Intelligence and law enforcement did a good job busting up this ring. Rather than burden ourselves with useless restrictions, let's just have them keep doing their jobs.

I could hide explosives in a thing of toothpaste if I wanted to, it would actually be quite easy, and depending on the liquid if I had only two or three toothpaste containers I could bring down a plane...that is why they banned them...I have one for me, my sister, and my mother...that simple

drudge report has a blub saying not to use your cell phone within 50 feet on something suspecious because you can accidently detonate something. Is that really possible. First thing I thought is all of the people on cell phones in stores near the types of items they are making people throw out. Hope that is just not possible. Don't detenation devices have to be on certain fequencies to be activated by remote.

Liquid Bombs created with bottled water and mascara? Doubtful. What chemicals were used and what were the terrorists going to do sit in the middle of the plane and mix these chemicals together while everyone just let them? Don't mind us we are just mixing our drinks together

In the first place, this example is beyond ad absurdum. Nitroglycerin was one of the "chemicals" and it wouldn't require a lab full of beakers frothing over with dry ice in water to create the necessary explosive. Are you familiar with plastique? It CAN be prepared well before boarding!! Remember the Shoe-bomber? All he needed was a match, and thankfully an alert individual thwarted that effort. Honestly I find you really trivializing a very serious situation. *sigh* Like I said, hell, let's just give up and let anyone fly--take on anything they want--give a cigarette-like "fly at your own risk--The Homeland Security Department has determined that flying can be hazardous to your life; it has been shown to precipitate terror attacks, sabotage, death and destruction on a massive scale" warning on them... so nobody will have anything to complain about. Nawww... who am I kidding, the complainers will then find something about THAT to complain about. 8-)

This sounds a lot like the Bojinka plot. They could also put explosives inside a terrorist. That's the answer. We should ban people from planes.

Isn't that a little odd that this sounds like a recycled plot from 1995?

Yeah and I could hide even more in a book or inside my body. What's your point?

Seriously though someone has a good cooment about the stuff still in cargo. Is there anyway to detect things in the bags that are checked? I hope they are not overlooking something. Terrorists seem to work like hackers as soon as they come up with protective measures they already have someone trying to find the loophole.

The use of cell phones to remotely detonate explosives was used in the Madrid bombings--very successful in more ways than one. Perhaps I'm naive; but I'd like to think that in the three years or so since this incident, some progress has been made in dealing with this problem. Who knows? Who should? Certainly not the terrorists.

The terrorists must be really proud now

They'd have been a LOT prouder had they blown up 10-15 planes and many thousand people.

The terrorists, including still at large Bin Laden, are smart and they are proud now. Disrupting our economy also makes them happy. And this recycled Bojinka plot will make them happy as well. Even though it didn't destroy any planes it will make people less likely to fly because of the crazy restrictions.

Yeah see I would hope that even if they can not detect explosive liquids in the cargo they would x-ray to find anything that looks to be a detonator. I would assume anything being detonated in this fashion would have to be metal.

A2K, I hate to tell you this, but electronics aren't banned on US flights. Only in the UK. And I'd wager that I know far more about airport "security" than you do.

Gtalum, that may very well be true; but it was in the UK where this particular bit of terror was being planned, and we do not know that the US, after this incident, won't implement similar measures. I certainly won't challenge your claim, as I know nothing of your experience(s), nor you mine; but I'd wager you know far less than those most responsible for airport security--unless you work for the Homeland Security/CIA or what have you agencies--which is best left undisclosed

I think the British authorities have a very good handle on what's going on, just my opinion.

I just really hope, as I know everyone does, that this was just one event. And that there won't be anymore as we get closer to the 9/11 anniversary.

Anyone think this is just a phony recycled Yusef plot from 1995 being used to drum up fear?
