Why oh Why oh Why oh Why?

#1 Postby CajunMama » Wed Aug 09, 2006 8:02 pm

We have had great chances for rain here in Lafayette parish. Rains have been coming in from the east but every night the storms get to the eastern parish line and *poof* they dissipate. It's doing the same thing right now. They'll reform around the southern parish line and move into Iberia and vermilion parishes. I just can't figure it out. Image

I wonder if any of that is going to push into the houston area later on?

CM, I was just thinking the same thing. It's like there's a wall around Lafayette it's ridiculous. The storms are just stopping right when they get here, never seen anything like it and like you said it's been happening for days and days on end. It's been around 2 weeks since we've had a good rain here while outlying areas have seen deluges. I don't get it :grr:

As I type this the room is being lit it up with lightning, I'm used to it now with no rain.

I know just what you mean, CM! There were some crazy storms a few weeks ago here and so many of the times I thought rough stuff was coming my way (according to the radar), next thing I knew -- nada, nothing, zilch. Just sun and blue skies.

But then when I didn't see it coming - BAM! Instant formation right off the coast! (Okay, yeah...I know, meteorologically, it wasn't instant. But trying to show anything to coworkers on radar and satellite was next to impossible.)

Guess we'll see, YG. I'll be watching. :)

Well we're getting some light rain right now, definately missed the heavy stuff though. Baton Rouge is getting pounded again right now by another strong line that is heading this way but I'm definately not expecting it to make it here. (trying to jinx myself  ). We shall see.

Duckie, we were inundated yesterday afternoon by that line of severe storms. My car actuall sank on the drivers side and I had to get it winched out so I could go home. My boss radioed me and told me not to take I-10 westbound because traffic was completely stopped. So I went Hwy. 90 and it was flooded. The lightning was awesome, but too dang close for comfort.

Nobody was brave enough to bet against me! It went *poof* and there were some good storms and rain.

Lucky Lindaloo glad you got some rain knowing that y'all have been dry also.

It was a big blob on radar when I got home covering south Louisiana. You did not get any of it? I know one thing, it was awful.

Bah, southerners don't get winter. They just get cool summers.

Ha, the showers moving through this morning made it so we are just now reaching 72, at 3pm! What a wonderful change this is! Just look back to last week - on the 3rd, our low was 72. This is beautiful, and more so because it's not raining here any more.

And I've noticed the same thing happen here as you claim it does in Lafayette - the showers (or sometimes the heavier showers) just seem to move right past, without even caring that they are leaving you dry! I know you guys are farther behind than we are, but it still can get pretty darn annoying.

It's been very dry this summer so far.

It rained about .08 a few minutes ago, as we were on the extreme southern tip of a squall line.
