OT: What weather equipment do you own?

I figured it's slow around here right now. Sorry Mods, I know this isn't really a Tropical question....but it does have something to do with weather, thus tropics. LOL

So what kind of equipment/software do you have for weather watching/monitoring? I want a software for plotting etc..any suggestions? Otherwise I just have a weather station. (and tons of digital pics of storm clouds...my family and friends think I'm a little weird, but I know you guys wouldn't think that) :lol:

Oregon Scientific WM-918 (yeah, I know that's really old)
Weather radio
Another digital thermometer
and since we're including cameras, I've got one pretty good one for my various pre and post storm shots.

Software:
Virtual Weather Station Internet
GRLevel2
GR2Analyst
GRLevel3
Integrated Data Viewer
Eye of the Storm
Google Earth :lol:

and the most useful of all . . . Internet Explorer!

Shhhh... don't tell anyone, but...

The Storm2k users are my favorite weather software!

Here's the deal; not so much as a whispy little cloud escapes these folks. If it's weather related, they'll find it and point it out. Next, someone throws out a crazy idea, then the pro mets jump on it and give sound reasoning that keeps everyone sane. The built in moderation keeps everyone focused and the cost is just right. I've been known to send in a few bucks now and then myself ;-)

, but it's always free and I'm glad to support it.

When you have hundreds of folks (admittedly, about 20 over the top active folks) watching the tropics 24/7 and you have tons of free resources available, you really don't need to spend a dime on software (unless you really,really want to).

I'm glad this site is here. I'm also glad it stays active year round.

I forgot, I do have a Uniden scanner handheld and tabletop, which of course has weather on it as well, 3 laptops, 3 desktops and of course internet (Roadrunner)

I used to have a good weather station, but it was blown away/destroyed by the combined forces of Hurricane Charley, Frances and Jeanne. The anemometer started having problems after it failed during a 96mph gust from Charley, and from there on out the entire station recieved more and more damage from the following storms. During Jeanne the station recorded it's final gust of 84mph before biting the dust.

May be I will get a new station one day, but for now I am left with visual estimates, a few cheap digital thermometers, and Internet sources from NOAA (as well as other sites) and the users of Storm2k.

Lets see...where to start :lol:

First I have my website, then I have a Davis Wx Monitor II with VWS Internet Edition, I have a Kestrel 4000, 2 NOAA Wx Radios, a walkie-talkie with NOAA Radio (actually there are three in this house with that capablity but only one is mine), two scanners with NOAA Wx capabilites, Grlevel3, Weather Exchange, a digital camera for cloud/lightning photos, and of course the internet for things like NOAA, NWS, NHC, etc, plus a wireless wx station I cant hook up to the net, another temp/humidity sensor in the kitchen, and a radio with capabilities of picking up NOAA Wx radio, and my laptop...I think that covers it all...I think... :lol:

well for starters..... My Ford Explorer... in it and on it... Sony Laptop.. Davis weather station for the basics.. Barons Mobile Threat Net radar system which is XM Satellite based... A R M Young Aneometer and the wind tracker which is the panel for the read out of said wind speed and direction... I use Hurrtrack software link here " http://www.pcwp.com/ " ... A joto desk in the truck for the laptop... Microsoft streets and trips for GPS... a noaa weather radio.... 2 fire and police scanners... Sony VX-2100 camcorder.. Sony VX-1000 camcorder... Nikon D-70 digital camera... Nikon N65 film camera... A Sony F-717 digital camera.... 2 camera tripods and a bogen video tripod... Pennical Studio for video capturing and editing.... Photoshop for photo editing...

oopppsss and i have an oregon scientific weather station at the house... it is basic with temp, pressure, dewpoint and humity.. plus a rain gauge in the yard...

oh yea...you reminded me, and one RM anemometer that has been run into a powerline while attached to a certain SUV and then it almost got drowned during Ivan and ran into a telephone pole... :lol:

I dont have anything to hook it up with yet though...

I've got an Oregon Scientific thing which measures the temperature outside, and the pressure (buts that about it, but then I did get it about 8 years ago). An electronic rainguage, a normal rain guage, a hygrometer. My newest bit of equipment is a Strikealert lightning detector which seems to work well.

Yes I know I need to update my weather station. :lol:

That's a neat Explorer! You drive a white Explorer and I drive a white Windstar. Gessh, yah know I have kids. Never pictured myself driving one but now I love it...a lot more room!
