They just showed what nitroglycerne in it's pure form looks like... and it looks exactly like clear syrup.

Sports drinks and MP3 players!!!

Plane plot involved 'explosive cocktail,' official says

Terrorists planned to concoct an "explosive cocktail" using MP3 players and sports drinks to blow up as many as 10 jetliners bound for the United States, authorities said Thursday.

U.S. intelligence officials said the plotters hoped to stage a dry run by Friday, The Associated Press reported. The actual attack would have followed days later, the officials told AP.

A senior congressional source said it is believed the plotters planned to mix a British sports drink with a gel-like substance to make an explosive that they would possibly trigger with an MP3 player or cell phone.

The sports drink could be combined with a peroxide-based paste to form a potent "explosive cocktail," if properly done, said a U.S. counterterrorism official.

Yep, sure does. I made a small batch one time, purely for research purposes, in my younger days. One of the perks of being the high school chemistry lab assistant for two years running. :-)

So what is being done with all the potentially explosive liquids? It looks like on tv some people are just pouring these possibly deadly explosives into trash cans. This all sounds extremely poor planning on the government's part. Liquid explosives have existed for years, as have terrorist plots to use them, and they just came up with the idea to ban liquids today? Hello?

Watches and jewelry will be next. Who is ready to hand that over with all the airport theft and lost luggage?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.. They ban liquids they are over reacting... They ban liquids and "they waited to long" to do so...

What are you going to do?

I just can't find it in myself to get upset over people trying to protect my loved ones. Go to some other countries and see how inconvenienced they are.. Then tell me again how bad it is to have to wait an extra hour for your Flight.

Anywho.. Main theme for this day is.... Hooray for alll involved in foiling this!!!

I am still seeing things on the news about people lossing expensive items this afternoon. This makes no sense as it is all over the radio, tv, word of mouth and signs posted everywhere in the airports that this stuff will not be allowed to be carried on. So if people are showing up more than 12 hours after this has started and it somehow escaped them that these items can not be carried on then I do not feel bad for them.

Is that a picture of you so scared by the terrorists that you want to live in a world where people fly in airborne prisons?

I don't understand it either...

and like someone else said, you can put it in checked baggage. If it's that important to you, why not just do that?

Some people are never happy... it's always everyone else's problem and not theirs. :x

Airborne Prisons????

YOU CANT BRING LIQUIDS ON TO THE PLANE FOR NOW... Airborne Prison??? Uh.. Someone in here earlier used the term over reacting and I said there was no over reacting.. I now take that back.. When you compare a prison to an airplane where you cant bring your make up with you. THAT is over reacting

How far will it go Chad? How scared will we let the terrorists make us? How much will we change just to make ourselves feel safer? Mass. governor Mitch Romni just banned all electronics on flights from Logan.

Oh please. Airports constantly lose luggage. Do you trust airport baggers with your valuables?

As far as it takes to keep you and your loved ones alive hopefully :-) No More... No Less..

I have not seen the Electronics thing yet.. But.. If he did he did.. You dont have to fly out of logan.. As a matter of fact no one HAS to fly out of logan. Can you get to where you need to go on the plane without having your gameboy to play? Me thinks so.. It may not be as fun of a flight for you.. But you will get through it.. I promise you!
