Hurricane Hungry?

#1 Postby crazycajuncane » Fri Aug 11, 2006 3:21 pm

It seems like a lot of people have found a new hobby in tracking 28 storms in a season, but this hurricane hunger may starve some people.

Everyone keeps telling people who say the season is over, "but what about this year!"

I am not saying the season is over by a long shot, but watching these big waves come off Africa and get dominated is more fun than worrying about evacuating for a Cat. 4

I've always been fascinated with Hurricanes and Tropical Weather, but this year I wouldn't mind a break. We got wedged in between two big storms and a lot of bad things happened down here in Louisiana last year. Is it such a bad thing not to have Hurricanes out there?

I personally want a slow season just to show up everyone who said that this year would be as bad as last year. I just find it amazing that this year Chris got so much publicity in the media and all when it was a good chance he would get torn about in Cuba. I actually called that, but oh well.... let the Hurricane Hunger live on.

May we have a normal to below normal season! Let's go :fishing:

Easy for you to say Matt, you live in the Pacific Northwest.

I love tracking violent storms, but I remember that it is key to remember that people's lives are being uprooted and that storms kill.

Agreed Cajun. But, we have several threads on this topic already.

Its all going to flood any way. In hurricanes will always hit its rebuilding at your own risk. I love powerful storms more then anything on earth...But rebuilding in a area that is going down is fool hearty. IF I'm wrong then history is wrong.

Yeah, it'll be underwater if no one helps the state to protect our wetlands. How would you like your state to get hit by a Category 3 storm and a Category 3/4 storm in one year THEN the next year get hit by another one? Come down here and tell the 10s or 100s of thousands of people whose homes were destroyed/severely demaged that no one cares about them and that the souther part of our state will be underwater in a 100 years. Maybe then you'll get a reality check. I'm not trying to be disrespectful here, but I really don't like it when someone puts down MY state. Also, Matt, if someone lives in an earthquake zone (like in the Pacific Northwest), in a flood-prone area (like the deserts of Arizona/New Mexico), or in Tornado Alley, and their house gets destroyed they shouldn't rebuild either because if would be stupid??

I watch for them....anxiously. I don't lie in wait for them like a vulture.

Bingo.

It's not about whether one lives in a disaster-prone area, since everybody does, it's about how one adapts to the environment.

You meet some of the people in southern LA and MS and ask them if they want a hurricane to hit them.

Um...I care, thank you very much.

And since a degree of compassion seems to be lacking in your statements, let's look at it in a nutshell from a purely economic standpoint. Until they invent a hydrogen powered automobile, the ability to grow plastic on trees, or the means to raise and harvest shrimp, oysters, and much of the seafood on the nation's plates and menus from farms in Kansas or Montana, you might take the time to consider caring enough to keep us around as well.

Matt, you might want to re-think your choice of words. That's pretty close to an attack on everyone who lives in a coastal state. If nothing else, it's simply rude.

I've bit my tongue with Matt's constant remarks about those of us living along coastal areas being nothing but dim witted fools...

Its beyond growing tiresome, and maybe we should be allowed to have the gloves come off!!

Maybe we should all be wishing for a huge volcano eruption in the Cascades, because volcanos are so fascinating, we just LOVE them!! Of course, we don't want it to actually HIT anybody. But, if someone lives where they might get damage, well, they should know better, right?

I am simply disgusted by Matt's comments and will restain myself from making any further statements about them.

Suffice to say that I just typed out a long response to it and then re-read it and decided not let his comments incite me to post things that could get me banned.

I will follow the advice of the Mod's and restrict my comments to PM's to the Mods and will simpy ignore him going forward.
