Why? Just from a climatological standpoint?Extremeweatherguy wrote:I think Debby will form during the last 10 days of August, and I think she will also be closely followed by 5-10 more storms over the course of the following 4-6 weeks. August 20th through September 30th should be very active.

Yes, from a climatological standpoint, and also because of the wet phase of the MJO which should overcome the Atlantic during that time frame. Those two factors combined could lead to much more activity than we have been seeing.sevenleft wrote:Why? Yeah, it won't be too funny when it actually happens.Lifesgud2 wrote:Extremeweatherguy wrote:I think Debby will form during the last 10 days of August, and I think she will also be closely followed by 5-10 more storms over the course of the following 4-6 weeks. This prediction is also close to what Dr. Gray and NOAA is thinking. They are all calling for an active season with about 15 storms. In order to get 15 storms before Nov. 30th, we are going to have to see a lot of them form in a short period of time (especially since Oct. and Nov. are usually not too active). I think 5-10 storms in a 41 day period is actually very possible this year.

The last time there was a Debby was 2000, it was heading towards South Florida on August 22. I remember that because that was the last day that my mother and I ever went shopping together, and it was for supplies. After we left Publix and Walmart we went home, and 2 hours later we were ambulancing her to the hospital in the midst of a massive heart attack. We lost mom exactly one month later, and I dread the name Debby and August as well as September 22 to this day.

Just why is this so funny? I've talked with many mets who also agree that once this season pops, we could easily see 8 - 12 storms back to back until the peak wears down. I hate to say it, but EWG could be pretty accurate with this prediction.

Debby = within 72 hrs.
UPDATE: well now I am not so sure. I may have to go back to my last 10 days of August prediction for Debby.
