OK, now that works for me, even though clicking the links doesn't. Weird. Thanks!

The next thing I know Tom Terry is on the TV with his predictions of 90mph+ winds. Everything had changed so fast, within 10 hours I was now expecting to see Orlando's worst storm in 44 years! I will never forget that moment when he correctly changed the predicted path before the NHC and probably ended up getting a lot of Central Floridian's more prepared than they would have been.

And here it is! The video of Tom Terry making the prediction of a turn:

It was obvious that it was turning. I don't like that guy. Seems like he wanted to one better the NHC.

Paul delegato said the same thing. I haven't seem him, Tom much...just that video but he just seemed a bit cocky. The storm was still well within the NHC cone and the storms track was a developing story.

But when Tom was saying this, the National media was still pin-pointing Tampa. Many central Florida residents had no idea about this change in track until Tom brought it up. Tom first mentioned a possible turn around 11:00 - 11:30am...the NHC did not officially change the track until closer to 1pm. This extra time made a huge difference in how many central Floridians prepared.

As we approach the 8pm EST hour, here is another video of local news coverage as Charley crept even closer to the Orlando area:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pG44PkM34E4
^^8:32pm EST 8/13/04^^

At the point this video was taken, Kissimmee was in the heart of Charley, and hurricane force gusts had just reached downtown Orlando. Things were going downhill quickly!

I was in a Kissimmee hotel at the time with a bunch of tourist and foreigners who had no idea what the heck hit them. It was something , transformermers blowing, fences shattering. Iron gate around the Pool which was right by my room was violently shaking. Water was being blown out of the Pool. Went looking for my Mom at one point couldn't find her. Turns out she was hiding in the tub. Lost all power. Rain was driven into the room thru AC unit, cracks, etc... Carpet was completely soaked and no dry room to go to. Had to use all towels, blankets, etc... to try and soak up. Trust me there is nothing worse than the smell from a wet carpet in a Hotel room.

2 years ago today, Charley came through my area as a weak tropical storm. It was the last tropical system to come through my area.
I never saw a gust to 20mph

I can remember the day Hurricane Charley did his amazing strength powerup. I still can't believe it but even though he was small he packed a punch!
