#1 Postby gatorcane » Mon Aug 14, 2006 12:56 pm

Just had a squall come through with wind gusts to 28mph.....I as in the Boca-Delray area about 1 mile from the Beach.

Looks like there are some squalls on the way that are rotating around the developing Low off Florida:

Our per usual 1:30 thunderstorm was late today - it began at 1:33...

Thundering at this time - calm winds...

Frank

P.S. I'm 7 miles west of FLL...

Getting overcast but the rain's not here yet. Looks pretty dark looking south. Not much wind to speak of yet.

I was driving back to the office from an appointment I had with a client downtown - just before 2pm. Got caught in one heck of a downpour for about 10 minutes. Visibility maybe 25 to 30 feet or so for a minute there, otherwise no worse than 200 feet or so.

Not so fun when the visibility suddenly drops like that on the expressway. You don't have any choice but to slow down, but OTOH all you can do is pray that the people behind you do the same.

Marty's mother and sister are leaving from Ft. Lauderdale on the "Enchantment of the Seas" today.

His sister can't pass up a deal, but I was like "IN AUGUST...IN HURRICANE SEASON???"

Yep...

They're going to be sailing through the Bahamas and I think the Virgin Islands. It's a 6 day, 5 night trip. They may be seeing some other islands instead...

We (S. Dade/N. Monroe) are under a weather alert now due to a severe line of t-storms moving through. It's nasty out there right now.

Are these storms worse than your average afternoon thunderstorm? I'm confuzzled as to why there's a thread on this.
