upwelling

I understand how upwelling can effect storms, especially in shallower waters. How are Cape Verde storms affected prior to the Antilles? If a average size cane formed in the vicinity of the CV islands and headed west at an average pace how would it effect the development of following waves. Is the water too deep to have an affect....just curious

Effect would be minimal provided the first system is moving at least 10-15 mph. Water is deep enough and no time to upwell much. Major systems can have an impact if in the lead, i.e DAVID and FREDERICK 1979.
