Does school start for you soon? That will help you some there. You will have your friends to talk to when you go back to school. Then you can check on here before school and after school. I know fishing is good up your way too. I love to go fishing. I do alot of fishing on the weekends.

Man...Ophelia was enough for me last year...yuck, I think I will never like slow steering currents ever again...the pure evil they bring!!! :grrr: not to mention the total wipeout you have trying to stay up for the entire time it is affecting your area...

I appreciate you all caring for me though, but I just need neutral conditions in the eastern pacific to enhance the atlantic basin for hurricane activity..

Will,
Be patient and those mighty storms you want to track so badly will be here before you know it. 8-)

Will, I know exactly how you feel. I grew up during the 60's and 70's which was a very quiet hurricane cycle. So even though I had a tremendous interest in the storms I never got to experience one until 2004. I still have a great interest in them today, but don't live waiting for the next one. Remember, there are many interesting aspects of the weather to enjoy in addition to hurricanes. I believe you said one time you live in Virginia. You will soon get to enjoy observing the mid-latitude cyclones of the fall and winter coming through. The weather never stays the same for long, that's what I love about it. If you don't already do it, why don't you start tracking the daily weather. I have weather records dating back to 1974!

I'm not very happy myself about this 2006 Atlantic Hurricane Season. It's a really dark time for tracking tropical cyclones....and the fact that the 2005 season was so active and then a huge switch to nothing is hard for us to cope with.

It has been moving NNW since yesterday. It looked about the same yesterday (tiny). It will most likely disipate.

Sadly no. I'm sure the models show something like a tropical depression forming sometime within the next week or so but nothing like a major hurricane. The GFS showed something like that a few days ago.

I just read Dr.Jeff Master's blog for today and he said that the wind shear across the Caribbean remains very strong. However he said that this shear should really die down by Wednesday the 23rd and he expects at least one named storm to form during the next 7 days or so. So maybe keep an eye out for that.

Will, do you only like Atlantic systems or are you willing to look at systems across the globe?

When I first came to Storm2k a few years ago, hardly anyone talked about storms outside of the Atlantic basin. I, as well as several others, started posting more and more about systems in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Before long, Storm2k became a place for people around the globe to following storms... around the globe. When there isn't something going on in the Atlantic, usually there is something in the Pacific. During the winter months, you can check out the Southern Hemisphere--there is plenty of action down there.

Check out http://severe.worldweather.wmo.int/
Check out http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/tc_pages/tc_home.html

Beside the invest in the Atlantic (93L), we have a hurricane in the Eastern Pacific (Hector), an invest in the Central Pacific (91C), and two more invests in the Western Pacific (91W and 93W).

If that isn't your cup of tea, check out http://meted.ucar.edu/

That website has plenty of programs you can check out. They help teach meteorology, covering numerous topics. Learning and asking questions will be a nice stepping stone toward reaching your dreams in weather.

Welcome to summer time !
I must admit, this August is very boring so far in the SE, with slightly above average temps and below average precip- not the most ideal for an active weather month. I wouldn't mind a good tropical storm myself with heavy rainfall for about 4 days straight with highs in the mid to upper 70's, or a stationary front with a slow moving low moving through the SE with heavy rains. I would love to see another Gaston blow through here - it was fun (but no major hurricanes please !).

But don't worry yet - every season we see tropical cyclones developing, even if the season is slow. September usually is the most active month. I'm sure they'll be some action later.

Yeah will, enjoy the downtime ... because when 2 or 3 systems get cranking in the Atlantic basin, as a storm enthusiast, you won't believe how much action there is on this board and how much information will be flying around!
