Will, I want to see your reaction when a major hurricane's bearing down on the U.S. Patience is a virtue, you'll get your hurricane to track. Stay cool buddy.



I understand the exuberance of youth; but this is sooooo potentialy incendiary. "A major bearing down on the US" will bring death, destruction, and tragedy to countless people and an economic disaster--hardly something to be "anxious" to see. Hey, I'm NOT trying to be a Grinch here, as I fully understand the excitement these monsters are for the young; but having gone through literally dozens of hurricanes and tropical storms... it's just hard for me to read the excitement some display for these harbingers of calamity. That said, I do understand the youthful fascination--been there, done that--but also have seen the flip side of the coin and it ain't very pretty.

I agree...to an extent. However, I think it also has to do with the fact that they get tons more coverage, you hear about them more...there's more "rush" and "excitement" that surrounds them. If a Katrina-type storm heading for China or the Philippines got just as much coverage as Katrina did, people would be almost as "excited" so to speak about it as they would the real Katrina. Location still has a lot to do with it, since we're more familiar with the places to be potentially impacted, but it has a lot to do with media coverage, and media is naturally going to cover the local events more.

Just an innocent question....

I'm not a hardcore S2K'er (I usually come by once every couple of days and go through all of the most recent threads.) Is there something I'm missing? It seems that periodically when someone replies to "willjnewton", it is immediately followed by a private message from the moderator. Is this a special new contest that S2K is running?
