The name Oliwa itself would be a giveaway since that is clearly a Hawaiian name and those are given only to CENPAC storms. Oliwa in fact became quite a potent STY in WPAC.

Suggestion:

Use the BT data from Unisys, not the "from TPC advisories" data.

There was alot more that came across from the eastern Pacific. (1994)

In fact, Emilia, Gilma, and John all originated in the EPAC and peaked in the CPAC. John and Gilma were Cat 5's at their peak.

John also entered WPAC and was a typhoon there and went on to become the longest live Tropical Cyclone at 31 days. I checked the Unisys site and although they show Oliwa's track on the map showing all the storm tracks, the individual data is missing. To read up on Oliwa go to the JTWC site and scroll down to the description of the storm which is listed under Central/EPAC storms (the description of Paka is there as well).

Someone said on another topic that Hurricane Emilia was a cat 5 for 6 hours in 1994. what is the truth on this?

Iniki is the one I always remember, since it happened after Andrew.

Has there ever been a storm to cross from the EPAC......into the CPAC....then into the WPAC? That would be quite a journey.

Sarah in 1967 also pulled that trick. That storm hit Wake Island as a 120kt Cat 4.

Iniki formed in the EPAC as TD 16-E. It just did not become a TS until it reached the CPAC, but it is not a true CPAC storm

Is it true that Iniki formed from the tropical wave that came off the African coast after Andrew?

Has any system made it from the Atlantic to the Western Pacific? (Note: this can include the remnant low/wave, as long as it developed in both basins and was tracked the whole way)
