 I have only had about 4" of rain since May first at the house, everytime rain does pop up it always missed may area by a few miles. We get the cool air flow, lightening, and gusty winds but NO RAIN!!!

That sounds like exactly what is happening here in Allen. After a while you start to take it personal that everybody else is getting rain but you. :(

The rain yesterday in Rockwall formed along the outflow boundary heading south from storms along the Red River. We noticed the wind picking up and then soon after it started raining. I guess the right ingredients came together at the right time. The shower didn't move and basically formed and dissipated right over us. I hope you guys get in on some rain as well.

I have only had about 4" of rain since May first at the house

That would be considered pretty wet around here (4" in three months).

We've had 6.02 inches so far this year, and with a fairly wet winter and very dry spring. So far August has had 1.11 inches and has been the wettest month so far this year. Spring rains never came.

...DROUGHT INFORMATION STATEMENT FOR NORTH TEXAS...

HISTORIC DROUGHT CONDITIONS CONTINUE ACROSS NORTH TEXAS. BELOW
NORMAL PRECIPITATION HAS BEEN THE RULE THIS SPRING AND SUMMER...
COMPOUNDING DEFICITS THAT HAVE BEEN ONGOING SINCE EARLY 2005.

WITH PERSISTENT HEAT...RESERVOIRS HAVE CONTINUED TO FALL. THE
COMBINATION OF EVAPORATION AND TYPICALLY HIGH SUMMERTIME WATER USAGE
HAS TAKEN ITS TOLL ON AREA LAKES...DIMINISHING ALREADY CONSIDERABLY
LOW LEVELS.

THE U.S. DROUGHT MONITOR CONTINUES TO EXPAND ACROSS NORTH TEXAS THE
AREA OF EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT (D4)...THE MOST INTENSE CATEGORY
RESERVED FOR 50-YEAR EVENTS. FITTINGLY...THE CURRENT DROUGHT IS THE
MOST SEVERE SINCE THE BENCHMARK MULTI-YEAR DROUGHT OF THE 1950S...
WHICH ENDED ALMOST 50 YEARS AGO.

Gary Woodall of the NWS FTW office said it would take a tropical depression to move into NTX and park itself for about 2 weeks to ease the severe drought we are in.

Come on EL NINO..........

I guess we sucked it all up so that it couldn't get to you.

Sorry Scott. We had a very wet spring until the end of April.

Damn.

We got to 98 degrees today, one away from our record high! So close!

However, we did get a record high minimum of 74 degrees (previous record was 70, I believe).

As of today, Austin just has recorded the hottest August on record. Officially, 19 days of 100 or more in August - the days that weren't 100 ... were close.

3 @99F 1 @ 97F

And those 3 99 days? Were 100+ at our house...

On Tuesday evening we had about 3 minutes of rain. We all went outdoors to look at it. It is such a treat after all this time, even though it was short lived. It did not even register on my rain gauge. Plano, which is just south of us got hammered. Watching the radar was kind of funny. There would be these huge areas of precipitation that would go through the Frisco area and then angle more southeast towards Plano and Allen would just get the outer edge of that rain. Yesterday we had no rain although it looked kinda like it would.

I am just keeping my fingers and toes crossed that this El Nino does develop! :P

Speaking for Austin and our ability to get any rain this week while it surrounded us ... and in the words of Charlie Brown on Halloween night:

I got a rock!

Yesterday broke Rockwall's streak of 2 consecutive days of rain. :)

But as TexasStooge noted, the 100 degree streak lives, and will probably continue into the weekend. There's some hope that a coolish front will make it through early next week which may stop the streak. It has to end at some point, right?

Another day, another 100-degree-plus high temperature.

I know we hit at least 101 today here in Austin. Ugh .... :onfire:
