Ever quit smoking?
Moderator: S2k Moderators
Karan and Bron,
I have quit before and always went back. The one thing that is different this time is that I enlisted the help of others. That's made a difference! In the past, if I didn't succeed, who would care? Now I feel that I have people that care and that I don't want to disappoint. It makes a huge difference.
Karan, keep us posted here, on how you're doing, and I will be your biggest supporter!
Bron, If you get this message before you move, keep the faith, and know that we will be asking lots of questions after you are back!

I commend Ed, Karen and Bron on taking the steps to quit smoking. Making the decision to do is the hardest part sometimes.
We the Storm2k family is here - on the message board and or in the chatroom - to keep those hands and fingers busy chatting.
Good Luck and God Bless all of you.

OKay... Fill me in Ed! Howz it going today?
You bettcha I care very much that you and Karan stop. I know how hard it is.. even just thinking about it. I will be here (in thought for the next few days, but present in prayer for you!)
LOL@Karan! You are thinking just like I am... I am having my last little "fling" on Sunday night! A bottle of bubbly to celebrate moving into my new home, then its by by cig's! I guess I am going to have to say goodbye to my evening sundowners as well for a while. Alcohol makes me want to smoke more.
Ticka you are very correct in saying the decision is one of the hardest things to do. I have known since my son arrived.. I HAVE TO STOP. But I never did, I think the guilt of that has just been building over the last few years. I won't BS anyone I really enjoy smoking, but it is just not worth it anymore. Over the last few months I have been continually thinking about it, something I never did in the past really (untill my son) I came to the realisation that I do not WANT to smoke anymore. I think when you reach that stage, where you actually want to stop by yourself, is the breaking point... with me another issue was the control thing. cigarettes control to much of my behavior and I do not like being dependant or being controlled by anything, let alone something that is destroying my health and the health of my son!
Hopefully the move will give me enough distraction because I smoke much more when I am bored.
Thanks for the support you peeps.. We are all going to need it

OK, well today I'm able to go about my business without constantly thinking about it. There were a couple times when I still got a strong urge: Getting out of the shower, getting in the car, etc. But other times it has been out of mind. Still coughing up crap.
Tonight it will be 3 full days.
The best part is that I'm broke until payday and I don't care! Before, I'd be desparately scrounging change from the car and drawers, looking for butts in ashtrays, bumming smokes from other people, and otherwise begging and borrowing. I don't know how many times I'd go into the store with a pocket full of pennies and nickles, counting change at the counter! I WON'T MISS THAT!
I'm starting to tell the people at work that I quit. So it's reached the point that I will be subject to public humiliation if I go back now. But that's a good thing, because it's an incentive.
That's the daily report.

I wish everyone good luck who is trying to quit. I smoked for about 4 years in my late teens, I never got near a pack a day and a really bad day was 10 cigs. Even with not smoking too heavily, it was still hard to quit. Try to avoid situations that will cause you to want to smoke. The biggest one for me was going to a bar because there was nothing better (at the time) then having a few drinks and a few more cigs.
Good luck once again!

You are on your way...together as Ed said...with the support of others.
We CAN'T see you, however...BUT this message board is built on a solid foundation of trust and truth.
We'll care about you regardless of the outcome...that's a given. But what better opportunity is there than this one!
I am (we are) proud of the effort, and you are worth EVERY click of the keyboard to me personally.
Hang in there 2k'ers. I'm going to need YOUR help in losing 15 lbs...and I won't let YOU be easy on ME!

unbelievable! way to go coriolis! this is first time in a loooong time i have read a six page thread in full length. unfortunately, i smoke too and like a fiend especially when i am in "left brain mode" and working diligently on an illustration. i'll work a section, step away, hotbox one and come back to check my work over before continuing. doesn't help living a sedentary nocturnal lifestyle where it's pretty much just me and "them". anyways, i'll be following this thread closely so best wishes to all who are trying to quit! a word of advice, forget the patches, they make your mouth like you are sucking on nails and DEFINITELY stay away from the Zyban, that s*** will wig you out so bad, you'll wish you never tried to quit in the first place... p

I smoked up a storm today. I have never had a smoker's cough but today my lungs seemed to be anticipating a change and I started hacking!!!!! They were saying "Please, please no more - help, help!" At least that's what it sounded like to me.lol
Tomorrow morning as I walk the dog, get ready for work and drive to work - that will be the test. If I can make it past that, well, I'll be headed in the right direction since I don't smoke at work anyway.
Thanks for the support Ed - you're an inspiration!!!
Bron, I'm sending good vibes your way. Can you feel them?????

OK....within a few days, ladies, you will be feeling younger and more energetic...just like ED! So follow the leader and do your very best.
Ed is very correct in saying his motivation is spurred by those around him. Yours will be too. Look at this week as though it will be the first week of the "rest of your life" not as though it will be anything else.
A positive approach will get you through...minute by minute, hour by hour.
We're with you!
