We are dealing with one, Debby is the red headed step child of storm 2k...

No offense intended to red headed step children

Poor Debby is starting to look neglected. :(

Everybody seems to be freaking out over this storm going into the GOM because of last years storms. THIS WILL NOT BE A KATRINA!!!! #5 will be lucky to even survive the shear. If it turns into a Hurricane then and only then we should start worrying. The NHC seems to be not that worried about this depression just like Chris since some of the models dissipate the system. The only thing that is good for this storm is the very warm water it will be in but that alone will not support a Hurricane. Everybody chill and lets see what happens the next couple of days.

I think an eventual landfall in a similar place to where hurricane Rita made landfall.

I don't know about that. If it becomes a tropical storm or even stays at current organization levels, I'm going to be concerned. Life and Property are in question in hurricane season, and since I don't have any property, Life becomes an important element to the equation. I don't so much care, but I got 3 kids to deal with and a potential day long commute just to get 200 miles in any direction. Worried? No. Concerned and watching? You betcha.

Local mets here are saying that the shear is relaxing, therefore, giving it increasing chances of getting into the Gulf.

I've read that too Linda. Those of us living in areas affected last year are doing what we should doing (and what everyone else should be doing) - paying attention.

I've noticed on a few other threads that people are getting slammed and criticized for being concerned about landfall this far out. Well I'd like to know exactly where the criticizers got their hotel suites at and how much they paid by waiting until an evacuation order was called for. Now IS THE TIME to make some preliminary preparations like booking rooms and such because if you wait then not only will you pay dearly you just may be sleeping in your vehicle. Reservations can always be cancelled if you don't need them but I for one would much rather know that in the event I have to leave again that I am in a good place.

I'm going to my sister's house - outside of Baton Rouge.
