I would not be "scared" maybe mindful of the storm, it still really depends on what track and how strong the system becomes after leaving Florida some of the later model runs esp UKMET and the Bam's have moved more towards a SC/NC border landfall and the UKMET actually has the storm over the ocean quite awhile and coming in around Bogue Inlet so this would be a pretty good hit for NC if that track came true (also really close to JB's forecast not sure how I feel about that) but it is the eastern outlier as far as models go.

If the current track is correct then most of us here in eastern NC are going to get just a bunch of rain and squally weather but nothing to be too worried about

I am ready for something whatever it is...we broke a record high temp. yesterday at 98 and today tied one at 97 with no rain.... I think with the high pressure to our north along with ernesto to our south joining up could create some pretty high winds esp. gusts. Also, how is this storm going to go inland more than 150-200 miles with a trough sitting right over the VA/NC boarder?

Yep all in all looks like at the least 5-10" of rain may be common over a lot of eastern NC and the Tidewater of VA and north from there. Heat index right now is around 105 and actual temp was around 96. If the blocking high over the NE is stronger or a little south then there could be a strong onshore flow that could produce a lot of flooding for the Pamlico sounds and the Neuse river basin.

1) cold front bringing torential rains and t-storms
2) stalled out ernie the rainmaker

i was trapped by floyd for 2 weeks - dont want anything even close to that

Looks to be primarily a rainmaker for most of us. Mention of a Rex block could mean a little more rain than we want.

It was 3 weeks for me for Fran. We did at least have a el'cheapo generator that could run a fan and coffee pot at the same time..LOL but that was the first and only time I ever got the hives.

Floyd was only a couple days.

Is anyone else concerned -- despite all the talk on the local weather about how we have nothing to worry about -- that with just a minor shift to the east in the track, we could go from a 'rain event' to a cat 1...with very little notice?

Just wondering if I'm the only one thinking we might be doing some scrambling tomorrow night. Wondering if I should have made a Walmart run today for beer and C batteries.

I am very interested in the sudden blow up just south of Marathon Key. That is explosive.

Here's hoping that all us Tarheels don't let our guards down. This could very well be a significant rain event. Hopefully we've all learned our lesson aka Floyd. And the grounds here in SE NC are still moist from last week's heavy rain.

Keep a watchful eye for any changes, and "keep your powder dry"!!

No one here seems concerned. I think it has been sooo long since a destructive storm that people tend to forget the power and destruction of storms. We may end up with some rain and wind, or a lot of rain= flooding or strong winds and rain..who knows. I always say, better to be safe than sorry. Everyone in my family knows I prepare at the beginning of Hurricane season and Saturday at my daughter's 16th B-day party everyone was saying they would come to my house and I told them real quick..NOT! I stocked for me, husband and kids...not enough for several families...just one. We are the only ones in our families that own a generator as well, but we have a 20mth old with special needs so it will run things he needs.

Accuweather has Ernesto coming in between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington and it has the potential to be a Cat 1. So I don't take any chances.

So true, millibar. Even if the storm cuts through central NC as it appears to be heading now, all that extra water will end up here in the east.

hey weatherwoman, I live in New Bern and no you should not be scared just alert. Although there is a slight chance of it being a cat 1 hurricane at landfall, it will more likely be a tropical storm with rain and some wind. Since you live in Newport, you should have nothing to worry about since you are far enough away from the coast.

Here in the Triangle, RDU hit 99 degrees today (tying for the warmest day of the summer). We've only had isolated showers around here since about the beginning of August (I've picked up only 0.12" in one brief shower since that time). All the grass is brown and dead and some the leaves on the birch trees are turning yellow/dropping in order to "maximize efficiency"/minimize transpiration from the dry conditions.

Looks like an absolute reversal of that is in store. 5 p.m. track takes the remnants directly over my house. Warm season cold air damming situation setting up ahead of Ernesto will only serve to enhance the excessive rainfall threat.

I had to deal with Floyd for a long time. took a year and a half to rebuild. The water was up for 11 days here. I have been worried over the rain more than a hurricane. can deal with wind. But when you leave your home in a boat. all you do is cry as you go out of site of your home in a baot.
