Yes, all 200 or so temporary residents were air mailed to Hawaii a couple of days ago.

Lets see if we can get a core pressure on this thing over the next 3 to 6 hours. The next ob should tell alot more about this systems strength.

No one actually lives there . . . they are contractors, both civilian and military, that work on the island, mainly the airport.

And as for Ioke, her CI numbers are falling. According to CIMSS, they were 6.2 around 23Z and at 01Z now down to 6.1 average and 6.0 raw. I know it's looking worse, but not a weak Cat 4 worse. Then again, the JTWC hasn't been following the ADT#'s at all the past few days, so I don't think that is too much to worry about . . . either way, Wake is going to get destroyed.

If it's counted as a Wake landfall, it will be the strongest storm to strike U.S. territory since Andrew.

Is that ocean inside the island? I really don't see anything of significance, but I do suspect that the island will be under water if not completely submerged when everything is said and done.

It was posted either earlier in this thread or somewhere in the first thread if you are interested in searching for it.

I heard on the news that a meteorologist voluntarily stayed in some kind of concrete building to meaure the precise winds and pressure. That doesn't have to be done by a person, so I assume he stayed just for the thrill.

Well, it's once an hour obs (not quite real time), but that's how that reports. But yeah, I know a lot of us are watching that page.

Wake Island is used as an airstrip. Good thing everyone escaped. Hurricane Ioke is producing 50 foot waves.
