Winds have now gusted as high as 50 miles per hour and we are staying around the 38 to 41 MPH range.
We have picked up an additional 1.5 inches of rain, and we are now at 5 inches of rain.
We are having some of the worst weather so far this storm has thrown at us. Looks like its going to be a long night ahead. Planning on staying up most of the night providing updates as long as we have power.

Hows the waccamaw River holding up??? Any flooding predicted?? I lost my house on that river on savanah Bluff Dr during Floyd....be safe!
I've not been that far inland or heard any news about the river, yet. But as soon as I do (and I'm not sure how soon that'll be...I may run into Conway and check it out tomorrow afternoon), I will be sure and let you know.
I wasn't here during Floyd. I lived in KY at that time, but I've heard many people tell their stories of homes flooding and being absolutely amazed at how much rain fell. Sorry to hear that you lost your house to the river during that one. My sister goes kayaking off of Savannah Bluff all the time.

Also, in the past couple of hours, the worst of our weather up to this point, and looking at the radar, for the storm as a whole, came through. Winds probably gusted to around 30 a couple of times, with extremely heavy rain. Tree debris (mainly pinecones and small branches) has fallen all over our driveway and yard. Still hearing an occasional strong gust, and every once in a while, a thump on the roof.
And I agree with those of you that nighttime storms are scarier. Though Ernesto is not near as strong as Charley was at my location, Charley didn't worry me a bit here in SC. In fact, my whole family rode it out on my front porch, watching the trees sway and tree debris fly. But the sound of the wind at night, and not being able to see what it's doing... even with the little bit we've gotten tonight...

Just got a call from one of my chaser buddies (who happens to be on his honeymoon) from North Myrtle. He doesn't have his gear with him, but he reported sustained around likely around 50-60 with gusts higher. He's on the 16th floor though, so surface winds are going to be slower.
He's also said there's "a wall of water (rain) between his balcony and the other side". He also reported a lot of lightning out to sea.

NOTE: This includes yesterday's rain from the frontal boundary storms, I believe.

Yeah, North Myrtle always seems to get most of the fun around here. But then, I've only been here since December of 2001, so I haven't had a lot of time dealing with these things.

YEp watching him and Jesse right now. They are still in Kure Beach near the center. They had an average wind of 51mph and 3 or so gusts at 61mph. They are fine and having a great time in the HIRT collecting data. They have seen some minor beach erosion as well.jpigott wrote:Anybody heard the latest from Mark Suddeth
