Ioke's first vis images are available now . . . looks like it's still suffering a little with outflow to the western side, but it's certainly trying. Of course, it could also be that the satellite isn't high enough yet, so I can't say that for sure. There is a small dent for an eye, and I have a feeling that it will clear out before the end of the day over there.

I have been keeping an eye on this beauty for a while. If anyone has any nice visible pictures from space on this one and could pass on the link it would be much appricated.

Was there an actual pressure reading by recon with Ioke??? I am not familiar with Typhoons in that region of the world. I will say that the Eastern Pacific produces much more beautiful and usually stronger storms than the Atlantic.

Unfortunately, the US no longer provides recon for WPAC systems or CPAC system not threatening land. Taiwan does provide synoptic flights, but that doesn't include storm fixes (which would provide a pressure reading).

That is a shame. I bet they would of found some VERY LOW pressure readings especially how busy they have been the last couple of years in the Eastern Pacific. Thanks for the info.

BTW, if this is an ERC, there is a chance that Ioke could become annular after it finishes. If that were to happen then it could remain a major hurricane for a longer duration of time.

Eye is starting to clear out now, looking very potent. Still holding to my "clear eye by end of the day over there" call, and this could/should result in a bump back up from JMA.

Wow... certainly a beautiful Cane/Typhoon... this has to be one of the most amazing storms to track the way it's trekked like 1/4 across the world... Deffinitely one for the image archives

not much hype here in Tokyo yet, basically just water cooler conversation. That will change by early next week according to the heading. Also I have been researching hurricane hits and it seems that most have come from south or SE.. moving by Tokyo at very fast clip 25+ mph .. this one will be moving much slower and coming in at a different angle.

It's definitely getting its act together tonight (tomorrow?).

Looking like a super typhoon again, IMO.

Is there an available map of the complete track of Ioke? So far I've only seen separate maps for its CPAC and WPAC incursions...

The thermodynamics really aren't there for a repeat of what it was before yesterday. It's past peak, the cloud tops have continued to warm signficantly. It's probably a 3 now, even once the ERC finishes I don't see it going back to Super status unless it stops gaining latitude.

It isn't like Ioke hasn't rejected a forecast gain in latitude before, though.
