Homebrew Devlopment in the G.O.M. next week?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Homebrew Devlopment in the G.O.M. next week?

#1 Postby Johnny » Fri Sep 01, 2006 9:42 am

I've heard a few of y'all mention that something could from on the tail end of the front that should push out into the gulf the beginning next week. Are any models showing this? I think even Joe Bastardi mentioned this? Anyways I'm just wondering if we might have something to watch next week.

The trough is in the Gulf and it looks like it's going to split rather than lift out. That should leave a piece of energy down in the SW Gulf. But that stuff takes a while to stew unless you've got an incoming wave to juice it. We're just going to have to wait a while (and FWIW, I haven't looked at any globals today).

The Houston office isn't sure the front will even make it into the GOM.

Maybe it will further east?

I just went and looked at the globals, and I can't see much resemblance from one to the other except: they all pretty much take Ernesto's remnants toward Buffalo, and all but the NOGAPS appear to be hinting at a Negative NAO setup with pretty strong low pressure over NE Canada. GFS points to a couple of insignificant, closed off pulses hitting the N Gulf. Other than that, I really didn't see anything tropical hinted at.

Looking at the GFS forecast that shortwave to make it pretty far south. I would not doubt a front making it to the GOM.

Yes, JB's evening post does mention that fronts in the Gulf in September are never a good thing. He also says that a wave could meet up with the stalled front. Should be interesting, but as of now he is only saying there is a "chance" something could spin up, and is not saying something will for sure just yet.

Oh no you're not, Lucy ... you're not going to get me to try and kick that football again. I'm not buying it. Nope. Sorry. Nothing doing. I know you'll pull it from me the moment I try and kick it.

Well after reading the discussion out of the Houston/Galveston office this morning, it looks like the front will move offshore sometime next week.

Well this may be a little off this subject, but if the UPPER trough washes out or mores west, the BOC will need to watch. Check this out.
