I imagine, all of these wind gusts would have been several orders higher had Ernesto spent less time over Florida and wound up to a Cat 2 or 3.

What a wacky wild storm!

I walked down to Rockaway Beach around 11:30am. The winds there were probably gusting over 50mph. Sand blown all around the boardwalk and in my eyes.

The thing that is weird is the fact that these wind gusts occured AFTER the final advisory was written. This has got to be the first time I can remember seeing a TD produce 81mph wind gusts.

High pressure to the north is creating a tight pressure gradient, causing these high winds.

I was over at the Shinnecock Inlet in Hampton Bays, NY around Noon (the webcam is out :( ). Winds were blowing 30-40mph, gusting to 50, making it necessary to lean into the wind several times. Several surfers were braving the High Surf Advisory put out by the NWS, but the windsurfers had to head for the protected bays. I've uploaded some photos of the crashing waves to my Flickr account.

We had gusts up to 60 mph here in Ocean County last night. I had lost power for a few hours but it is back on now. It is still raining and we have winds from the East at 32 mph gusting to 45 mph as of 3:25 pm. It is also getting quite humid here. Humidity is 84%.

Looks like some stronger bands are developing -- or at least one anyway that could head north towards NYC.
