NHC official positions:

Code: Select all

11pm yesterday:  17.7N 49.5W
5am today:       18.4N 50.2W
11am today:      18.3N 50.9W

So the most recent movement has been a little more westward, but NHC always gives a direction averaged over a somewhat longer time, usually 12 hours or so. Over the last 12 hours, the course has been WNW.

The NHC is unsure of the exact location of the center, so they are using an estimation based on the previous 18 hour motion and the expected future track.

To be obvious, yes, but depends on the latitude passed also.

Very likely, a new center is going to form under the MLC to the East of the one the NHC has as the of 5pm. Would not be surprised to see that center be around 21N and 51W when we get visible sat. pics in the morning. The center the NHC is plotting most likely dissapates.

Will this ever get as far West as 70W. not likely.

How do you tell the difference between west and WNW just by watching the loops, especially when you can't see the center very well anyway?
