Speaking of 93L, will they consider sending a Recon into that too?

They wouldn't. If they can't get to it efficiently from Biloxi or St. Croix, then it doesn't get scheduled, even though the Candian Maritimes are still threatened.

EDIT: that was for your first question, CrazyC83. I don't think they would send one into 93L until it's a little closer or they get more planes down at St. Croix.

http://www.ns.ec.gc.ca/weather/hurrican ... ory_e.html

In addition to surface, satellite, and radar data, reconnaissance aircraft may also be sent into a storm to help determine its intensity. Flight-level winds are converted to representative surface winds through known reduction factors. During three of the last four hurricane seasons, Environment Canada's Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC), in collaboration with the National Research Council (NRC), has used the Convair 580 aircraft to fly into tropical cyclones to deploy data-gathering instruments called dropsondes. These instruments, analogous to radiosondes (weather balloons), are released from the aircraft while it flies through the storm. As the dropsonde descends, it measures temperature, pressure, humidity, and wind, and transmits these data back to the ground station.

It should have been repositioned yesterday afternoon. It's not like they are super busy monitoring two or three major systems at the current time.

Yeah, but the plane is getting close to Florence now. So I'll be zooming in closer to Flo.

May I ask what images you are using for this, Thunder? I know the best I can get through SSD is the very distorted east coast image, and I doubt that is what you are using.

Flo still has some warmer than average waters to traverse....

I'm using the Central Atlantic image from SSD. You can get visible images without the Lat/Lon lines here:

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/trop-atl.html

It actually still comes out a bit distorted. I'm just zooming in, the resolution really doesn't change.

OK, thanks, didn't even know that the Central Atlantic image went all the way up to Bermuda. And yes, that is a much better resolution/projection (though still distorted) than the east coast image.
