Negative Environment

#1 Postby Sanibel » Tue Sep 12, 2006 3:42 pm

Northern Minnesota had temperatures in the mid-twenties recently.

Outside here it is noticeably cooler and drier with agitated breezes like fall.

Another weird indicator is the band of convection over the Sahara moving towards the coast. Could this be a break in the hostile atmosphere pervading the Atlantic?

it rains in South Florida here in Palm Beach every day for hours. I can't take the rain anymore. To me its a sign there is minimal ridging around this year.

We are off the coast here so the mainland upwelling convection doesn't get here as much. We have been fairly dry.

Season is busting as far as any "high cycle" showing.

You folks know how it's been - we've had very few easterlies all summer (aside from a local seabreeeze), and, as gatorcane mentioned, it's a sure sign of a weak or absent subtropical ridge to our east.

In fact, the current pattern is similar to late Fall or early Spring, with the "cold" front in North Florida forecast to move south to Lake Okeechobee, which is rare for mid-September...

Actually, not that bad - last night TWC mentioned that an El Nino pattern usually means an above-average (temp-wise) winter for the northern plains - contrary to what many believe, Florida get's it's "winter air" from the northern plains, not from the northeast...

The one negative is tornado season - during the El Nino of '97-'98, Central Florida had a very deadly F4 tornado in late January...

my local weather man emailed me. I asked him what the El Nino means to our winter in Florida. He said that it means a cool and wet winter and increased freezing temps. I say " BRING IT ON " He did say it doesn't mean that it cools off any earlier. HAH... I can feel it cooling off in the evening.

We went from drought to monsoon and now we will be overloaded. My front yard is MUDDY. Squishy. No relief in sight. I don't need no stinking rain.

We had a squall line from the west last night associated with a front.

To me, this means possibly watch out in October here. A front in September is early. Sometimes this means a re-settling of the tropical pattern in October. Watch out west Caribbean.

Sorry for the error - you're right that it was during the overnight hours, since most who were killed (42, from what I just read) were asleep at the time...
