Let's see if we can get a sharp eyewall.

I think Gordon is the best looking storm this season.

And it easily can be the first major of the season.

Gordon is the only TC This year to even look like a TC. Florence tried but never made it. Maybe this could be the first major. Maybe the last too.

From TPC discussion:

BUT GORDON HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME THIS
SEASON'S FIRST MAJOR HURRICANE ON THE CURRENT STRENGTHENING TREND.
WITH THAT SAID...THE INTENSITY FORECAST COULD BE ADJUSTED SLIGHTLY
UPWARD THIS AFTERNOON

Sounds like he's hinting at special advisory this afternooon. :D

Florence looked good at times, typical of a Category 2 hurricane (which I think she was for a while and will be declared after the season).

Here's a shot I made of Gordon. Eyewall looking quite sharp. A little weak on the southwest side. I'd estimate sustained winds are over 100 mph now, perhaps 110-115. Definitely going to be Cat 3 soon if it isn't already:

Won't go major until it blows its eye clear. The cloudy eye could be from rapidly inswirling bands from intensification or shear.

Think we've found 2006's sweet spot.

My respects to Gordon. Almost ingested by Florence, the smallest system so far this season, and now the most powerful.

I think TD 8 is saying, "most powerful, HA, just wait for my time to shine."!!!!

Gordon is showing us what the peak of the Hurricane Season should be like. Man, it seems like it's been a while since a hurricane in the Atlantic had an eye.

She's out there biding her time - she has lots of it after all. As for Gordon, he could easily be a major hurricane...
