GOM is quiet

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

I was so out of touch when Rita formed. I really need to read up on everything before landfall. I found a site not too long ago that gave you all the info on past hurricanes, including archived animated landfall maps. Anyone know what I am talking about?

I like to see a quiet GOM. Peaceful and beautiful sunsets along Mobile Bay.

I'm glad this year is done with pretty much, because the job I just started doesn't allow outside internet access, soooo since the activity is dying down, I won't have the obsession to get online anymore, at least until next July :)....

Well, last half of September and we are heading into October.....I don't see the conditions being conducive for development, so I think the season will probably end early like it has many times in the past...
Unless we get a late storm in October(in spite of the El Nino), see everyone next year........ :D

With a lack of activity in the GOM, there sure is a lot of heat that needs to be transported. Perhaps we'll have some decent winter lows and have a wet winter.

Toward the end of the Lane GFDL 06z run, a closed low pops up in the Bay of Campeche/southwestern Gulf:

Let's not jinx it and even think about getting a storm form down there, thanks. :D Some of us are actually ENJOYING our so-called "quiet season."

Seems to be a little convergence just off the coast of Nicaragua (evident on visible imagery and on this map):
