Excellant point Shawn, and one that is often forgotten. If we weren't so careful and selective, Bin Laden would be dead by now. You can't have it both ways.

What I do know is that the Pakistani government funded and created the Taliban. And that they are absolutely infiltrated with these cronnies. I know that we would be losing soldiers in Afghanistan like we're losing them in Iraq without Pakistani help. And I know that Pakistan supports terrorist groups in the region. They are being led by a general.

It was time to get serious. We made a serious statement perhaps. Would the US have done it? I do not know, but I do know that we are at war.

There has been much criticism that the US only went after the weak powers involved in terrorism after 9/11. This is a statement that it was not so. There is no stronger muslim country in the world than Pakistan.l

Okay, point taken, they are pretty selective about their targets. But saying "Bomb you back to the stone age" isn't a good way to portray a feeling of selectiveness :S

They were all born and raised in western countries. The UK bombers, for example, were all born in British cities. The preparations were mostly done by internet, they used their own money and sometimes they collected money.

Anyway, one can fight as much as they want in the Middle East, but with every Muslim killed by a western soldier, two more will stand up to join their Jihad.

So if fighting terrorism doesn't work (and it looks to be that way, because the world hasn't become safer at all since the War on Terrorism started), what should we do then? Find out why those people become extremists. Poverty is one reason, but it's hard to fight that in countries with almost no natural resources such as Afghanistan. Another reason is the fact that they just hate the West and want nothing to do with it. So maybe we should just leave them alone and stop trying to make Westerners of them (they obviously don't want democracy and plasma-tv, so why bother forcing them to accept these things?).

Don't forget that the US also funded the Taliban heavily in the '80s so they could fight the USSR. Most of the religious schools that are now training terrorists in that region were started with US-money.

Yarrah - they brought terrorism to US. We didn't bring it to them. They blame all of their problems on US. And by us, I don't mean just the US. I include the UK, Australia, Canada and every other democratic nation. Because THAT is where the extremist problems lay. The do not like democracy.

When they issued their last "statement", what did they say? They called for all Americans to convert to Islam. These people will look for any and every excuse they can find for terrorism not because of poverty, but because of hate.

Then let's stop giving them more reasons to hate us and to kill our civilians. Fighting them will only make things worse.

What reason did we give them for September 11th?! What reason did we give them for last July in England? Madrid? Bali? We should just roll over and let them do this?

the Bali bombings for example targeted westerners

most the victims were Australians

Bali is a popular tourist destination for Australians

during the months following October 12, 2002 Bali Bombing the locals struggled financially who rely on tourist dollars but with Bali Boming fresh in peoples minds we were cautious about visiting Bali

The reasons for Madrid, London and Bali are clear: the War in Iraq and the fact that the two countries participated in that war. Bali wasn't targeted against Indonesia, but against the Australian tourists that used to frequent the building that was blown up.
I'm not saying that we should just sit back and let them attack us, but that we should try to resolve this in another way. The fighting obviously isn't working.

PS: Just want to make it clear that I don't have any hard feelings against any of you. I just have a different opinion, but I'm sure you noticed that :)

I don't have hard feelings against you either, or Meso.

These people do not understand, nor do they want, peace. That is just the bottom line.

And sis - you know me better than to think I'm going to stick my head in the sand!

How do you figure it will make it worse? They need to be stopped this has been going on long enough. Who are you to tell us that we should continue letting them kill Americans on US soil and abroad. Maybe you should tell that to the families who have lost loved ones because of these militants groups whether they be American or foreign. Your thinking scares the HECK outta me!

I seriously think in the warped minds of extremist Muslims, they consider 911 to be retribution.

And what are we to do?? Lay down and let them do what they did on 9/11 again??? AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!!!!!!! We all know there are terrorist cells here in the US and abroad just waiting for the word to move. I for one will not sit back and "be nice" to COWARDS(Some call them terrorists) in the hopes they will leave us alone. We know they won't!!!!
