The one year anniversary.
My prayers going out to all those still suffering because of this hurricane both mentally and physically.

As has happened along the MS coast and in LA there are still many still suffering in SE TX and SW LA. Still many in trailers and no help in sight from the agencies that should be helping. There have been some specials on local stations concerning this. Seems Rita is still the forgotten hurricane to many.

Well said. I remember the numbness I felt when Rita was going passed the MS Coast. We were burying my husbands favorite Uncle that day. I remember Father wanted us to pray for those fixing to be affected by Rita. As he prayed he said "You all know that their lives will never be the same" "Please reach out to someone as they have reached out to you" I will NEVER forget his words!
Yarrah, you cannot even imagine what it was like! People are still suffering.
Kelly, you know I love you girl! You know I am still praying for everybody that was devastated by Rita.

I'll always remember hurricane Rita as the storm that snuck up on Louisiana and delivered the unthinkable 1-2 punch after the horrific Katrina. I hope we never see a year like last year again, 2006 has been a blessing. To all those who are still recovering, my thoughts are with you.
Check out this link of the graphics archive loop for Rita. Notice how it wasn't until Thursday morning that Louisiana really became under the gun.

Now, check out how high the storm surge was for the Louisiana coast. She was a monster indeed.
And here is a graphic of max wind gusts. All courtesy of NWS Lake Charles.
Here is a Radar loop of Rita making landfall.
