Rita Anniversary
I just can't let the one year anniversary pass without mentioning the hurricane that destroyed my house and property. We're back in a new house and still trying to get back on our feet - the paperwork alone is ridiculous - but we'll get it. I was surprised to learn that Rita destroyed more oil rigs and platforms in the GOM than Katrina. Many communities around here are commemorating the anniversary in their own special way. Rita knocked us down hard, but didn't knock us out. Some communities are completely wiped off of the map, but they'll be back somehow, someday. Our lives are certainly different, we are lucky and blessed indeed. Sorry, just wanted to vent my thoughts on this anniversary.

Been there, done that 2 years after Charley. Welcome to the club. It happened, forget about it, don't dwell on the past. Strap on the jock strap, if it applies, and look forward. You cant change what has happened, that is life living down here. Tighten those bra straps up and you will be fine. TheShrimper

Thanks Shrimper - This wasn't my first time with all of this. I've had damage from many storms of the past, namely I lost my home and my baby sister back in 1957 with Hurricane Audrey. I lost my roof and had water damage with Hurricane Lili , but that's what makes me proud - that we can bounce back and know that life goes on - the sooner the better. We enjoyed a wonderful barbeque dinner today that a local church was having to raise money to fix the cemetery - many tombs were unearthed by Rita and they are still trying to fix the problem. The people of this area band together to help each other instead of hollering and waiting around for FEMA and other agencies. You've got to help yourself - a lesson this area, as well as myself, learned many years ago.
