UPDATE: Plane, train, or bus

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Tue Sep 26, 2006 9:58 pm

Hey guys.. with the tropics quiet again.. I have kinda stepped away for a bit.. But I need some help.

The weekend of my birthday.. I am going down to Miami for 3 1/2 days. For the beaches, for the fact I haven't really been there, and for the Miami Dolphins game that Sunday.

Here's my quandry. I am "familiar"with the Greyhounds now.. and going to Tampa I'll go on the bus..

I have never been on an Amtrak or been in an airplane. While I am a bit tense about being on a plane after 9/11.. I am also comforted by the fact that 99/100 a terrorist would not get on a short Orlando to Miami flight.. and odds are a short Orlando to Miami flight wouldn't crash either lol.. Plus there is still a part of me that reacted after 9/11 that said "i'll show you terrorists" and that part really wants me to fly..

Everyone tells me for my 1st flight.. a short less than an hour flight probably would suit me..

Although.. I have also been told.. I'd really like the train.. plus a train or plane seat is probably a bit more comfy that a bus seat lol..

Ok guys.. u tell me..

The cost factor should be a deciding one since you don't want to spend all of your money on transportaion and end up Miami with no mad money for funtimes.

If you are going for the safest way to travel, you should fly. Cheapest would be driving or taking the train.

The bus could actually be pretty cool cause I could see going through all the towns I really have never been through..

The train or the plane I've never tried.. I know the train would be about 65 $ round trip.. but the plane would be well over 100 {Southwest goes to Ft Lauderdale but apparently not Miami}

LOL.. So apparently the consensus right now is the bus lol.. I'm actually looking for deals for a hotel plus flight on Travelocity.. and there's a hotel in Miami near Dolphins stadium.. I believe it's a Holiday Inn.. I can't find it now lol

You'd be absolutely insane to take a plane or to a lesser degree train. Bus is cheap, and its not that far away.

Why is a car not an option?

I say go with the plane. You'll have more time to enjoy Miami.

Yeah, if timing is an issue, then fly.

Bus it, all the way! Way more scenic, lot less expensive.

I agree with Steve. Take the bus. That will leave you more money to spend at the game. Have fun.

try to find a brt-60 metro liner to go in. the only internal noise is from the ventilation system. a very smooth and comfortable ride

Check Southwest.com for cheap flights to Fort Lauderdale. On short routes they can often be as cheap as the 'Hound. You can always take Tri-Rail from FLL to Miami. :)

Otherwise take the bus. Avoid AMTRAK at all costs. They are always late.

Why? With enough advance notice, Southwest is often as cheap as or cheaper than the dirty dog.

I'm not sure what week you're travelling, but if you were to fly from Orlando to Fort lauderdale on October 20 and return on the 22nd, it would cost $117 including tax on Southwest Airlines. It would run about $85 on the dirty dog. If it's a while away yet, you can wait for a SOuthwest Fare sale and probably fly cheaper than Greyhound, ~$29 each way.

Don't be afraid to fly. It's safer than travelling the highway.

If the plane is cheaper, which I never could imagine would be, then the choice is obvious.

with flying - the view is spectacular when coming into Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. You would have more time for seeing the sites in Miami as well.

I'm not much for flying (even before 9/11). I have always wanted to take a trip by train and have heard from several friends that taking the train is a blast. Bus? No thanks.

I'd do the train for the experience.
