I refuse to give out my cell number. I have it only for emergencies like breaking down on the road. It drives me nuts when I'm trying to have a conversation with someone and their phone starts playing. The person in question always makes a manic dive for the phone as if letting it go to phonemail will be the end of life. Not once has anyone other that my husband turned off a cell phone while visiting. Drives me nuts!
Now, if someone can tell me how to get my Verizon phone off "manner mode" so I can hear it ring, I might just use it....

I use Centennial Wireless and love the unlimited incoming minutes and unlimited Centennial-to-Centennial. With "free" nights and weekends as well, I never go over my minutes.
While I always turn off my cell phone when going in places like church, the movies, etc. what is wrong with it ringing in the grocery store? I can't tell you how many times I've gotten a call saying, "Oh, we also need ___" or when I've made a call asking a question about what to get. This is particularly handy during family gatherings. Besides the obvious reason of emergencies, convenience is another reason I have a cell phone, and it often does come in handy at the grocery store, so sorry, but I won't be turning mine off in there. Also, a lot of people have them so their babysitters can reach them and it doesn't do any good if the phone is off.
With that said, I don't sit around chit-chatting while shopping. I say what needs to be said and get off the phone. It's much easier to shop OFF the phone!

I think the point that my grocery store is trying to make is that they don't appreciate someone coming up to the deli counter or check out register while they're carrying on a conversation and making other customers or employees wait while they finish their conversation. That's just plain rude.

Yeah, I totally agree there. I was just talking about receiving or making a call while shopping on an aisle. I can't stand trying to talk on the phone while pushing a buggy and shopping anyway, but sometimes a quick call is needed/convenient for me.

I don't mind cell phones ringing while in a grocery store. The ringtone doesn't bother me at all. A last minute request for more groceries makes sense to me, so that doesn't bug me either.
No what annoys me is how a person acts when they answer their cell - while driving, if in traffic, they suddenly brake or slow down. If waiting at a traffic light they ignore the green light. If shopping, especially the grocery store, where I firmly believe the rules of the road ~should~ apply for grocery carts (unless you're in the UK, flip this strategy), these rude customers forget where they are entirely. Standing smack dab in the middle of an aisle, you made a loud noise with your cart, hoping they'll have a clue - oh yeah, other shoppers are here, I do not have this store to myself - and they'll pull aside (preferably to the "berm", LOL!) so you can pass. Or if waiting for the U Scan It registers, they stop when it's their turn and talk. Meanwhile the line behind them is backing up. You begin to pull around their cart and then suddenly - light bulb comes on - they realize, oh yeah I'm in a grocery store! By then the third person in line, behind you, is really hopping mad b/c they wish you had had the balls (sorry, but that's the best word here), to just go around this rude cell phone talker/so called shopper in the first place!
I see these instances happening all the time.
They just flat out forget where the heck they are and act as if they're at home, talking in their kitchen (for example). I swear I want to just politely tap their shoulder and whisper - you are in PUBLIC, you idiot....
Okay, my cell phone rudeness rant is over.
Cells are not the problem but rather the rude operators!
If I ever become one, someone please shoot me! LOL

What irks me is going to a store and the clerk is yapping on his/her cell phone while waiting on me. After waiting in line for several minutes last week at a store while the clerk was trying to talk to her bf on her phone and wait on customers, the clerk TURNED HER BACK to me to answer her phone!!!! Needless to say I had a rather animated conversation with her after i got her attention

I have Alltel (think that is the company - they just changed the name AGAIN LOL); a lot of the national companies don't have coverage out here in the rural areas where I need coverage.
My son is agitating for his own cell phone - he is 13 and *all* the kids have them . . . yeah, right! Again, rural area - most kids his age do not have their own cells. He takes mine to football games, etc. to call for a ride when the game is over; once he is past the age of mom taking him everywhere and at the age of going with kids from school/driving himself then we will see about him having a cell (and a job to pay for a portion of it). As a mom I do like the idea of being able to track him down whenever I want when he is out with friends, and if you don't answer, you are grounded

I'm curious...what would Bluetooth have to do with drug dealers?
I'm asking because I just bought a new cell phone a few weeks ago and it has Bluetooth. I didn't really understand what it was, but the guy at Centennial explained it some and said I could wirelessly transfer pics from my phone to my computer, download ringtones, etc. from Bluetooth, exchange ringtones, pics, or other info between another cell user with Bluetooth, and some other things I don't recall. At least that's what I *think* he said.
I haven't tried any of this yet though.
From real users and not a Centennial guy selling a phone, what are the benefits of Bluetooth for the regular cell phone user?

arthritis) and Cingular service. Me and my mom are on the same plan,
identical phones, except our plans are different - I have international calling,
and, don't know why..... 5,000 Free minutes, and neither of us
ever use them - plus, free nights and weekends.
Jabbering non-stop on cell phones is annoying. I work in a doc's office,
and, there's nothing like waiting on a patient to finish their conversation
so you can get their BP, talk to them about any med changes, etc. etc, especially
when you know the doc is WAITING to see them!
Use your cell phone responsibly!

I bought Tracfones for myself and all family members. It's a pay-as-you go system. You buy minutes at convenience stores and recharge the minutes. No monthly bill, no surprises.
I won't go anywhere without it anymore. It gives a great sense of security. If I have problems on a bike ride, or with the car I can call for help. If I get to the bus stop a minute late I can call and see if I missed the bus. I started using it for all personal calls at work. If the doctor or someone calls, I can step outside so everyone doesn't have to hear my business.
