Max Mayfield talks about Hurricane Katrina being downgraded to a category 3 hurricane at landfall and he says he was the last one to make that choice.

Brown-nosing TBSTORM - I don't think so. I relayed all facts. He is a class act. The gentleman has had an excellent career and will definitely be missed.

Mr. Mayfield is definitely a respected professional. No doubt about that. Though some of the questions were framed as, and this was yesterday, so I am paraphrasing, "You are the greatest etc. [compliment], Mr. Mayfield.... "

I would have been interested to hear the discussion about Katrina, but I tuned off about 20 mins into the broadcast. The questions asked in the beginning were along the lines of "What should people be prepared to do incase of a hurricane strike". Well most people know what to do, i.e. stock up on tuna fish and vodka ;-) etc. This is what I mean by pedestrian questions.

I for example, would have been more interested in hearing how he developed/used the DVORAK technique, which Mayfield mentioned in passing, maybe a little more technical questions.

Just a little constructive criticism, please dont take it personally.

This was the first time I listented to the center of circulation, I have been listening to Talkin Tropics frequently and enjoy the show.

Perhaps you could have posted some questions that you would have liked Mr. Wilson to ask him. I don't think we listend to the same interview that you did. It was only supposed to be a 15-20 minute interview. Hardly enough time to go into a detailed explination of the matters you are talking about.

Max always stresses preparedness and storm surge awareness. I don't see the point in trying to draw him into discussions that would certainly take more time that Mr. Wilson had alloted with him. He kept it simple and about the person being interviewed.

Do you have an internet based weather radio show?

Did you get an interview with Max Mayfield?

This was the first interview he had with Max Mayfield and will probably end up resulting in subsequent interviews, which at a later time hey may be able to key into different aspects of his career or certain subjects that would take more time to divulge into.

I'm not trying to be rude so don't take it personally but, I thought he did a good job with the interview.

I was only given 15-20 minutes by Mr. Mayfield, and since he is retirng, I decided not to make the questions technically based. This interview was based around his career. We touched on a few technical questions at the end; as time permitted. His accomplishments were key to the type of interview; as well as the emphasis he placed on educating the public and preparedness. You would think people know what to do; but not as many as you may think. There are also some people who don't believe in using common sense when it comes to evacuating.

As far as "being the greatest" as you put it, I have listened and listened again and I didn't hear those words at all. You call it brown-nosing (ridiculous), professionally speaking, it's called highlighting the accomplishments of his illustrious career.

I get the impression, Max enjoyed himself as the interview lasted close to 40 minutes (20-25 minutes beyond what he allotted).

I certainly agree with Mr. Wilson and SouthFloridaWx here...while it would be interesting to get into details...normal people who have normal jobs work 10 to 12 hour days..and they have very limited time to get into detail on air....If you want him to go into detail, you should e-mail him your questions and I am sure he would be more than happy to answer your questions in detail. I thought the show was well organized and Mr. Mayfield did a wonderful job with the interview.
