French Manicure

#1 Postby Lindaloo » Thu Sep 28, 2006 8:14 am

Has anyone had the nails put on? I went with my cousin to the mall to have hers removed after 6 months of having them "filled" I was horrified at the condition of her nails when they took them off. Her nails were SO thin you could see the blood under the nail. There are small ridges in the nail. This has GOT to be unsanitary and unhealthy.

I love getting a pedicure and have found out that some women get those french nails put on their toenails.

I love a french manicure to my (own) fingernails and toenails. I've done it myself several times. It's such a clean look.

I've have had nails put on for special occasions when mine look like crap. I can only keep them on for, at most, a few weeks. They feel very unsanitary. You can't really get them clean. When I take them off or have them taken off, my real nail feel like crap and looks like crap. It's also very sensitive.

A girl here at work always has these nails on. She has them filled every two weeks. She's worked here 5 YEARS!!!!!!! I can't even imagine what here real nails look like.

My mom has had fake nails with the french manicure for years and years. Her usual lady that does her nails moved so she was in the process of finding someone new and took all her nails off herself just last week. I thought her nails looked really healthy for them being wrapped up all the time. IIRC I think there are different ways to do the manicures, some use harsher chemicals while others use more natural substances.

Yeah I think getting them on the toes is a bit much. They would never last on me I am way to hard on my poor tootsies.

I use to do the artificial nails, but it just got to where it wasn't fun anymore. It got to be more of a chore because if you don't have them filled every two weeks, they look bad. It took about two months for my nails to get back to normal. I still paint my nails for the week-ends, but during the week it's useless with the typing and filing I do everyday!

O Town, you'd be surprised how long they last. In the Summer, with sandals, your tootsies look terrific and they match your hands!!!! I go barefoot from the time I get home until the time I go to work (I'm originally from West Virginia) and mine lasted 2-3 weeks. Oh, by the way, I do have all my own teeth!!!!!lol

ROFL!!!! I about choked on my water when I read that.

Hey I don't ever wear shoes either unless I have to, and then its sandals or flops. I dread winter where I have to actually wear socks and real shoes. :P

I have a hard enough time with my real long nails. My boss told me once he was tired of hearing "click click click" when I was typing. lol.

I would much rather have my own nails.

One morning I was at Sally's Beauty Supply. This lady asked me if those were my nails and I said "Yes ma'am" She said they are beautiful and she asked me what my secret was. I walked over to the shelf and showed her what I use. Well, went back to get some and they were out. I asked the sales lady when they would be getting more. She said " We get that in all the time and can't keep it on the shelf anymore" I thought "SIGH" Seems I did my own self in.

I'm with you Linda - I much prefer my own nails. One, I'm too lazy to keep up with bi-weekly filling; and two, it's kind of relaxing to take care of them myself. And how about the expense of doing your own manicure and pedicure vs. paying someone for the service? I just never could bring myself to spend money on my nails when I'm perfectly capable of doing them myself.

I do my own! Sally's has a wonderful Manicure ball that you put into the water to soak your hands. I also put it in my foot-spa thingy. I bought a Conair Manicure set as well. I like my feet and my hands to look pretty :D

Hey Sunny! I've been eyeing those foot spas. Are they worth the money or does a big enamel pan work just as well? I've never seen the "Manicure Ball" before - is it a Sally's product? I get my supplies from Beauty Brands so that may be why I haven't seen it. Love BB's OPI polishes - they last over a week on my hands and 2 to 3 week on the feet.

I love my foot spa! It helps with aching feet :D

The balls are called "something Season". It is not a Sally's product (I don't think so anyway), but I have never seen it any place OTHER than Sally's!

I love OPI polishes - Dusk over Cairo and Dancing in the Isles are my favorite colors. But with all of the typing and all, it hardly ever lasts a week on my hands. My toes, I can go three weeks and they still look freshly done!

The Samoan Sand over a french manicure looks terrific and natural.

Most nail salons carry it Linda. Or you can order it from Ball Beauty Supply on-line. I also use OPI's "Drip-Dry", it dries the polish thoroughly and quickly :D
