I am so nervous, it is still several days away and I'm so stressed out right now. I have a sick to the stomach feeling that these AP classes are going to munch me up.

I just got accepted to California University of Pennsylvania for Meteorology but not sure if I'll have everything ready to start in a couple weeks. Might go in January.

WindRunner and fact, if this question you feel is too personal you may PM me, but how many hours a night, on average, do you spend homework on?

Wxmann91 and fact789, what AP classes are you guys taking this fall?

(I don't want to totally give away my age, but I suffered through AP English and American history in the mid-nineties, when you guys were just babies. Actually AP English was fun for me, but American history was the pits ) I was supposed to take AP Calculus but I declined, taking advanced math instead. You guys need to take it easy, relax, and whatever the courses come up with, just do your best. That's all you can do, right? I'm sure y'all will do fine. :D

Figured I'd bring this up to see how your first day was, Jim.

Homework . . . well, that's the funny thing about all of this . . . first some storytelling to set up the situation . . .

First term last year I had AP Stat, Chemistry (the regular normal kind), Physics (the regular normal kind as well), and AP Computer Science A. Chem and Physics always allowed for completion of homework in class, for the most part, and it didn't take long for Stat to become like this as well. Comp sci never really gave too much out of class work, so whatever little work that I had left over at the end of the day I could do in homeroom next morning, therefore leaving my afternoons to practice-shower-dinner, followed by whatever I wanted to do, i.e. not homework. :D Of course, everything must balance out. Second term was worse, though not as bad as it could have been, as I dropped down to regular US History instead of AP as the AP teacher assigned 3+hours of HW a night - not that easy to do when combined with more practices and English GT, AP Physics, and AP Comp Sci AB. Most of the homework that term was English reading/projects/essays, as the history teacher tried to avoid giving us so much work that we wouldn't have been able to do it in class (oh, the thoughts of doing work at home! gasp!  ). Anyway, I had no problem with that, as you could imagine. Comp Sci was still mostly a term-long in-class project, so that made that simple, and AP Physics gave us our homework for the entire unit at the beginning, allowing us to do it whenever we had a chance after learning the material. Usually we had two to three weeks to do 2-4 chapters of work, which is a pretty good deal, as you can sit down on a night of your choosing and get done all of your physics for the next couple of weeks.

But to answer your question: the year before when I had AP Calc, it was usually about an hour or so a night at the beginning (sometimes longer, though, depends on how much we got to do in class and how time-consuming the topic was), but that eventually got relegated to a mad dash in homeroom by the end of the second term - and as I got lazier and the work got easier. Overall, however, I have never been one that could sit down and do hours of work at a time (except for projects and essays - always takes a few hours on the night before it's due). I've also never really had to do that much homework at home, so I would say an average of less than an hour a night since the beginning of high school, but I am a special case. 8-)

I started back to work in our Middle School's cafeteria. Instead of our former 11 employee roster, we have 10. There won't be an 11th we're told. That person passed away from cancer last year so we're all having to take on added responsibilities in the same amount of time available. Typical work situation, why hire another employee when fewer can do the same work. Well, let me tell you I've come home everyday (this is my 4th day this week), exhausted! I'm paid for 3 hours a day but we all arrive at least 15 minutes early. You have to! I start at 10 a.m. but the first team of 7th Graders comes thru right then for "lunch"! Our boss is trying her best to convey to the district we need that 11th employee still. I'd say so! Somehow I'll get thru this but the work is so incredibly fast paced and very physical - a shock again. It took me 2 weeks to get used to this last year! I will again and I love the schedule - mid-day and no holidays or weekends. Can't beat that but I'm just wiped out when I get home. And they know I want more hours - at least 1 or more if they become available.

My HS Junior started back this past Wed. and she's been down about it. Calls it prison and says she'd trade me "jobs" anyday! LOL

An area bakery made two batches of their yellow iced smiley cookies this week - one with the standard smiles. The other half with frowns. Thought that was cute and appropriate!

I spend about twenty hours studying every week for college. Sounds like a lot, but most people spend that much time watching red, blue, and green pixels.

It means I go well beyond the syllabus in the course of a month or so, but the great thing about college is after your requirements are taken care of there is no reason why you should study anything that doesn't captivate you. So for those imprisoned in high school with college ambitions, don't worry it actually gets 'easier'.

Wow, I'm looking at this for the first time in ages.

I have AP Chemistry, Calculus AB, and European History.

Right now it's still honors (they combined Honors and AP so it's one year vs. one term, our schedule is weird like that), so they grade by the 4 point scale. Which means a B will mess up the freaking GPA. When I get into AP I'll get some breathing room but undoubtedly that's when I start collapsing and gasping for air after three consecutive sleepness nights. :grr:

Just had my first midterm today - AP Chem. I bombed it! So right now I'm sorta feeling down and I wanted to vent  - forgot to convert grams to moles when I was doing an empirical formula problem.

I also have Honors Humanities who everybody says is hard. It's been pretty difficult but I've struggled through with grade not to bad, 4 out of 4 on my Sonnet analysis. Still a B though, need to raise that up. Just introduced to 10-page Sophomore Thesis paper a few days ago, which involves analyzing art and how it relates to the Human Condition.

AP European History's not too bad, the reading each night takes a few hours but I hate the FRQ essays!!!!!! Still, I barely still have an A in the class, just need to keep it for the next month and a half and I'm in AP, which allows for some breathing room WRT GPA.

AP Calc's my most enjoyable class, all my friends sit next to me. It's not too bad and I'm #2 in the class - BUT I have a midterm tomorrow, and knowing me, I won't finish it in time and I'll bomb it. :x SIGH.

OK, enough with my rants, how is everybody doing with their classes? LOL.

That's what my mom told me (about college being easier). I am required to get all A's so I can get into a good college. It's really hard though - I'm on the borderline A-B or below in three of my four classes... EEK
