(Published: September 28, 2006)
Two Upper Township teenage sisters were killed Wednesday in a three-car crash on a township road after their car was struck by a N.J. State trooper patrol car.
Police say the 10 p.m. crash occurred after the officer failed to stop at a stop sign.
Jacquelin G. Becker, 17, an Ocean City High School student, and Christina M. Becker, 19, a college student, died at the scene at the intersection of Stage Coach and Tuckahoe roads.
Higbee, 34, was on patrol on Stage Coach Road when he failed to stop at stop sign, according to State Police His marked patrol car struck the driver’s side of a Dodge Caravan and the collision drove the two cars into a third car being driven by Robert C. Taylor, 53 of Marmora.
Police say Jacquelin Becker and Christina Becker received fatal head wounds when their van struck the third car.
Christina Becker, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially thrown from the car.
Higbee’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Taylor and his son Michael Taylor, 17, occupants of the third car, were treated for minor injuries and released from Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point.
The accident remains under investigation.

That's terribly sad. A similar type accident happened last year at my daughter's college, Western Kentucky University. So sad. I have a link for newspapers, I'll try to find this article.

Found a link for the story but you have to join the newspaper to read it. Here's that link, I didn't join.

From what you've posted, I gather he didn't his have lights and siren on?
Doesn't mean he's not a good cop (in this case, state trooper). But it could mean he's a poor driver.
It also means he doesnt need to be in law enforcement. Two innocent girls are dead because of this man.

I would bet the same is true in the other 49 as well.
I recall a case several years ago in which a fire truck on an emergency call ran a red light, killing someone in a passing car.
The driver was fired and charged with vehicular manslaughter.
