Any Educated Guesses on a Real Winter for Houston this Year?

That was the first time I have seen snow close to and on Christmas. I hope to see that again. I noticed in the 1970s, especially around 1973 and 1976, there were lot of snowfall that time. The 1970s in Texas, especially 1976 was cooler than normal.

well actually what it was, was the el nino of 97-98 was strong, but the ice storm in Jan. 97 (right when the el nino began) occured while it was still a weak el nino. Weak el ninos seem to mean a higher than normal risk of winter weather for TX, while strong el ninos usually mean a lower than normal risk.

I see. Interesting! I remember after January of 1997, it was very wet and never got really cold.

and 1973 was the year of 3 consecutive snowfalls for Houston in one season. Now THAT would be amazing to see happen again.

and 1973 was the year of 3 consecutive snowfalls for Houston in one season. Now THAT would be amazing to see happen again.

That would be cool to have more than one snowstorm in a year. Maybe this year will be the year of multiple snowstorms.

Amazing for those on the South side of the metro area and along the coast, but just a dusting here in Spring Branch. However I do remember the 1973 snowfalls quite vividly. One of them averaged about 2" all over the city, but there were reports of around 4" in some areas. All of them covered the ground completely, which doesn't happen very often in Houston.
