How hot was your summer?

#1 Postby Jim Cantore » Thu Oct 05, 2006 5:58 pm

For me, the hottest I can remember since 1995. We had 2 100 degree days between 2001 and 2005. We had 5 this summer. and 26 90+ days.

6/18: 90
6/19: 90
6/22: 93
7/4: 92
7/10: 91
7/11: 94
7/12: 90
7/16: 93
7/17: 102
7/18: 104
7/27: 92
7/28: 90
7/29: 90
7/30: 91
7/31: 94
8/1: 102
8/2: 102
8/3: 101
8/4: 91
8/5: 94
8/6: 94
8/16: 91
8/20: 91
8/22: 90
8/23: 91
8/24: 92

If I compare a summer to 1995 it's saying something. 1995 was hell on earth.

How hot was yours?

Well, July was the second-hottest month on record (behind July 2003), and also featured the record highest average minimum temperatures. The high low temperature was 79 degrees, which was 1 below the record of 80. We also saw 9 100-degree days (average is 4), including two days of 104 degree temperatures. We saw a streak of 19 straight days of temperatures of at least 95 degrees, which tied for the third-longest on record. Two days before that streak began it was also 95+ degrees, so if that one intermediate day would have been warmer, it would've been 21 days in a row (which would've been a record). June was also probably 6th or 7th temperature-wise (NWS Salt Lake City only reports it if it was in top 5, but it was less than half-a-degree off 5th place). Finally, overall it was the fourth-hottest summer on record behind 1994, 2003, and 1988.

Quite an impressive summer here.
