Typhoon Xangsane eyewall intercept video - Vietnam

#1 Postby Typhoon Hunter » Wed Oct 11, 2006 11:52 am

Hey guys.

This is my first post here. On 28th September I left home in Shanghai to intercept typhoon Xangsane in Vietnam. I managed to get to Danang on the last flight before the airport was closed. The typhoon made landfall about 10 miles north of my location at 8.30am 1st October. I've just finished editing a 5 minute film highlighting the typhoon's mayhem and uploaded it to youtube:

Here's a link to some pics I took too:

Hope you enjoy them. I look forward to being more of a part of this forum in the future.

James.

Welcome to S2K James, I'm over on this forum as well.

For anyone who wasn't following Xangsane it was 75kts sustained at landfall, gusts to around 105kts, with an estimated minimum central pressure of 960hPa.

Very interesting to watch. Thanks for that. Xangsane did quite a bit of damage (about $600 million in Vietnam)... Thanks again James.

Reminds me of the 8mm movie I made of Typhoon Emma in Angeles City in the Philippines in 1967.

I think that makes Xangsane the costliest typhoon to strike Vietnam. (Fortunately, Xangsane was far from being the deadliest Vietnam typhoon. That would be Typhoon Iris in 1964.)
