North Texas Weather - A Brief Break from the Rain?

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Mon Oct 02, 2006 11:01 am

Just thought I'd start a thread similar to the "Houston Weather" one here.

The weather here in the North Texas region has been unseasonably warm, and the forecast for the week is expected to stay that way; but it's a nice week for people going to the State Fair of Texas in Dallas.

At 11:00AM CDT:

Irving, TX - Image 84°F (Heat Index 88°F).
Dallas, TX - Image 82°F (Heat Index 85°F).
Fort Worth, TX - Image 81°F (Heat Index 84°F).

You already have one like this in Weather Attic...actually, quite a few threads in there. :)

The Houston thread started about a cold front, then evolved into a storm threat, etc. and just got really long. Regular observation threads like this need to be in Weather Attic.

You could argue that there's a lot of "regular observations" in that Houston thread too. There's lots of "it's whatever degrees at my house right now".

Stooge, these conditions should last all week, then subside around end of the weekend into early next week. Hopefully it's an anomoly and goes away for the rest of the Fall. I was enjoying those highs in the 70's and 80's.

My kid's Fair Day is on Wed and it looks like we're gonna be sweating it out over there.

I agree, gboudx. That thread was started for a specific weather event though. If it turns into just an observation thread, it will get moved to the Weather Attic. Please read Chad's post in the other city threads anyone? thread.

Just imagine if everyone did this for their city in here. Actual weather event threads would be buried in minutes. That's why we have the Weather Attic. :)

We're not saying you can't start a thread about your weather in here, just that the request for everyone to start one for their cities just to have one, should go into Weather Attic.

I see what you're saying southerngale. And I agree with it. We can use this thread to discuss upcoming weather events for NTX, which there is nothing significant for this week. Soon enough this forum will be hopping with people hyping the next Arctic front in the 15 day GFS. ;)

The NWS has forecasted a chance of showers and thunderstorms for the North Texas region this Columbus Day as an upper level disturbance approaches the southeastern half of North Texas on Sunday and Region-wide on Monday. No severe weather is expected at this time, however, temperatures will be dropping to the mid 70s by Tuesday...nice for a change. This could mean bad news for the State Fair goers though...but then again, many of us Texans can't wait for the summer-like weather to end.

We went to the State Fair today. It was hot and humid(for NTX) and uncomfortable. We gladly paid extra to go see the Aquarium in all it's A/Ced glory. I hope that extended forecast pans out, but it seems the NWS isn't sure what it will bring due to model inconsistency.

Got some bad news: Any rain chances for next week have been taken out of the DFW forecast. The good news is that high temps will be in the mid to upper 70s to near 80 with lows in the upper 50s to near 60.

OK, I take back that bad news, a 20-40% chance of Thunderstorms is back in the forecast on Monday Night to Tuesday, they just wanna make us panic. High temperatures from Saturday to Tuesday will be in the mid 80s with lows in the mid to upper 50s to the lower 60s. From Tuesday on, high temps will fall in the 70s to upper 60s with lows in the lower to upper 50s. to the mid 60s.

At least the kids' day off from school (Columbus Day) at the State Fair won't be ruined.

I'm seeing 40% Tue-Tue night and Wed for Rockwall. We have highs near 70 Thurs and Fri with lows in the 50's. Not sure about that, because the NO NWS is discussing lows in the 30's on the northshore of Lake Ponchartrain. You would think our lows would at least match that, unless they think the coldest air will be east of us. Time will tell.....

The DFW Area has a chance of thunderstorms from Monday to Thursday with better chances on Tuesday according to the forecast. Also, high temps will be in the upper 60s to near 70 with lows plummeting to the mid to upper 40s by the end of the week.

We got a big area of showers and embedded thunderstorms inching closer to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. None of them reached severe limits...yet, but a Tornado Watch is in effect along and south of a line from Palestine to Waco to Junction line until 10:00AM CDT this morning. While most of the North Texas areas get 1/4 to 1/2 an inch of rain, some isolated areas may get up to an inch. Today's high will be in the 70s and the low will be near 60. The city of Weatherford managed to get some rain, but will it be enough to fill their water supply, which is next to nothing?

Image

As for the rest of the week, skies will be Mostly Sunny to Partly Cloudy with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday and Saturday, highs on Wednesday will reach the lower to mid 80s and lows will be in the upper 50s before the cool snap begins. From Thursday on, Highs will be in mid to upper 60s to near 70 with lows in the 40s.

In other words...IT'S FINALLY AUTUMN!

Well, today's the day we get a REAL Cool-down...but only for a short while anyway. Today, we have a slight chance of thunderstorms with temperatures steady in the lower 60s, which is where DFW is now...well...at 63 anyways. By tonight, low temperatures will plunge into the mid 40s, so you might wanna wear a sweater or a jacket today. This weekend is gonna be a wet one, as temps are rising back to normal levels, so are the rain chances. Highs will be in the upper 70s to mid 80s with lows in the 60s, greater chances of rain will be on Sunday and Monday with the only threat being heavy rain, which may lead to flooding.

Looks like a nice, wet several days on tap for NTX, starting this Saturday. Hopefully, we can get a few inches of rain to soak the ground good, so that future rains can generate the runoff needed to fill these lakes.

I'm gonna do my part for water conservation by shutting off my sprinkers this week. No need to water if Mother Nature will provide it free of charge. :)

(crosses fingers) I hope we get a steady soaker.

It was 49 where I am. I was expecting it to get lower.
