After a pretty quiet day it has gotten quite windy here tonight. Gusting to 20mph at Hooks airport right now and 25mph at IAH.

Classic training line has set up here over the southern portion of Brazoria county. We have received almost 5 inches over the last few hours. How they have not issued a FFW is beyond me....

looks like the piece moving toward Houston may be weakening a tad right now. However, the line of storms along the coast still looks very strong. As strato said...it is a classic training line dumping very heavy rains.

The NWS in league city has issued a

severe thunderstorm warning for: brazoria county in southeast texas
Until midnight cdt.
At 1114 pm cdt, national weather service doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This storm was located near jones creek, moving northeast at 20 mph.
Locations impacted include, clute, lake jackson, freeport, richwood, oyster creek, danbury,
Strong winds may knock down trees and power lines or damage buildings. Take cover now!
Torrential rain will accompany this storm that may cause localized flooding in lower lying areas.
This thunderstorm also has the potential of producing a tornado.
A flood watch is in effect until 4pm Monday for the warned area.
Please report severe weather to the county sheriff, local police, or department of public safety. They will relay your report to the national weather service.

700 AM CDT.

TORNADOES...HAIL TO 0.5 INCH IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND
GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE
AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 55 STATUTE

this is a scary situation. I am not a big fan of nightime tornado watches after going through the Feb. '98 outbreak in central FL (which hit in the middle of the night killing almost 50 people). Thank god I have NOTIFY to wake me up if a warning is issued.
