Hey scaredcat....skittle here. We're in a tornado watch, but the rains we're getting right now aren't likely strong enough for tornadoes. There are some heavier cells coming onshore now though (red), so just keep an eye out. Do you have a weather alert?

Welcome to Storm2k, btw.

Hey skittles!!! Well I had to come here, no one was on KFDM's weather board. No I don't have a weather alert. But I do have the Weather Channel on, the radio on, and my laptop.

I just keep telling myself that the cells have to be stronger to produce a tornado...all the ones here now are green on the dopler.

I'm sorry if I post any information that has been seen on here before, but at times like this it gets a bit hard to keep up with. As of now the weather radio goes off with a new alarm about every 5 to 15 min.

Stay safe guys. High PW's and increasing LLJ along with possible training should prove possibly disastrous should things come right. This is 2-3" per hour rain rates here and flood guidance is low - an inch per hour will cause flooding.

IMO, tornadoes are not a huge threat right now, but should become more so around daybreak.

You should consider getting a weather alert that will go off when there's a watch or warning issued. But, for now...stick around Storm2k as someone will likely post warnings, but in case they don't, keep checking this NWS page as well... http://www.srh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapCli ... X&site=LCH
You can type in Orange, TX there if you'd like, but the warnings will be the same.

Also, this page shows warnings as they come out...

Good Lightning, but Distant thunder here. The rainfall rate is ever increesing!
I went out just before it got dark and cleared out my little runoff ditches around the house. I haven't had to use them since about this time in 2003. when I bought the house.

It means be aware of potential flooding and tornadoes.

The LLJ (low-level jet) will crank up later tonight, increasing the risk of coastal flooding and thunderstorms, as well as possible tornadoes.

PW means precipitable water. Basically, how much moisture can the atmosphere ring out. It's EXTREMELY high right now...so this is tropical rain which piles on fast.

I hate to bring up the "A" word, but some areas that flooed during Allison could again flood.

Why has the Weather Channel removed the Tornado watch bulletin that was scrolling the bottom of the screen?

ScaredCat:

Don't worry a lot, all the warning that you see on here cover a large area. The Houston / Galveston area covers a large area. As of this report if your North West of Metro Houston. it's all good in your area. If your down here in the area near Baytown, then you want to keep a heads up. For the most part this will be a heavy rain event. So while all the weather words seem alarming, if they are not in your area lay back, but kind of keep a ear out.

Thanks TxSam

I'm in Orange. 30 miles east of Beaumont on I10. I see some stronger cells off shore south of us that have me a little concerned now.
Thanks though....but you can tell from my screen name how I feel about this stuff.
