My daughter is 19 and still living at home. We have a good relationship and enjoy each others company. Image

She has a sorority function coming up and the theme is the Kentucky DerbyImage...so of course the girls want to wear a hat.Image We didn't want to spend $68 on a hat here at dillards. So i get online and found a hat that i think she'd like and the shop happens to be in Jackson Square in the French Quarter. So with my logical thinking...let's go to new orleans and buy that hat...nevermind that i could order it online and they'd ship it to me! So off we went today at about 1:00. Image We get to NO about 3. No parking in the free parking but lucked out with a great spot directly on decatur street, right near the hat shop! Ok...so we get the hat and a fleur de lis necklace (ya know that fleur de lis' are the rage right now!). We wander around the quarter, watch a commercial being shot, enjoying each others company. We leave the Quarter at 5. Thanks to construction on Canal st and a wreck on I-10 it took us 1 hour and 15 minutes just to get out of NO.Image We finally arrive home around 9ish after stopping in Baton Rouge to pick up some food.

Gas $25
Hat $38
Fleur de lis necklace $14
Beignets $1.75
Stuffed Artichokes $14
Pick up dinner at pf changs $40
Pick up dinner at tj ribs $50
Window Shopping Free

Daytrip to New Orleans... @$200 (could have saved $150 by ordering online)

Spending the day with my daughter...PRICELESS but i could have gotten away with this alot cheaper and if I ever get a bright idea like this again someone please Image

That was a great story. I guess thats what they call the days that you will look back on and remember for the rest of your life.
Spending time with the fam. could never be a bad thing.

Love the story mama, very creative way to tell it with all the little pics.

Just curious, why did you eat dinner twice? :P

I'm guessing they picked up dinner twice, but only ate once. Just ate well....

The Kentucky Derby is the theme? Probably a silly question, but why, especially since the Derby is in May? Then again, what do I know...there are probably people in KY who have Mardi Gras-themed parties that aren't in February.

CM - yeah, you saved a bundle that way.....he he

Been there, done that before. Teenagers are expensive! Especially when they're in college! Nina bought a vintage cocktail dress last summer, for functions similar to what you described. She was working and made over $2K last summer. But that is not the point, she used most of her income to purchase my old car......she still owes us $500 yet.......she will pay us she says. The cost of her vintage dress - $100. My husband had a fit. And of course she says she couldn't return it. Easily, that is. So we kept it and it was very pretty, worth the price but she is in college. This isn't the time to spending money like crazy!

Ah, to be young again. My HS-aged daughter keeps saying this is a stressful time, she does have worries, and it's not easy. Somewhere, sometime I said wait until you're out of college and in the working world. With rent, car payments, bills to pay. She says it's that way now - and I swear I have to leave the room before I crack up. She gets SO mad if I disagree with her. Yes, HS is stressful but wouldn't you trade a day or two for that stress? I could go for a Freaky Friday day, now and then. LOL

Thanks for cute story. Yes it was a priceless day. Eh, who cares about money.....he he.

We didn't eat dinner twice. My daughter and i love pf changs and my husband and son prefer tj ribs. The restaurants are quite near each other so it wasn't a problem to pick up at both.
