yeah, there is some serious shear in the atmosphere. Pretty much any storm that forms will become a mesocyclone today.jschlitz wrote:PS - when the sun started to come up you can see the low level clouds are racing NE at incredible speeds. It looks like a tropical cyclone except the coulds are going the wrong direction...

From Jeff:
Countywide flooding in progress.
Several watersheds at bankfull or rising above banks.
Bankfull conditions:
Halls
Hunting
Cypress
Clear
White Oak
Greens
Tides are running 3.0-4.5 feet above normal resulting in minor coastal flooding. Flooding is occurring around Clear Lake and along portions of Clear Creek.
Flooding along Cypress Creek will worsen as the day progresses and more rain falls.
Numerous interstates are impassable at this time and travel is discouraged.

What I can't get over is in looking at the radar loop - the isolated low-level cells - mostly offhsore and east of Houston - feeding into the main convection to the NW -- those things are just moving SO fast. It indicates the LLJ must be blowing at incredible speeds. This whole situation, in a practical sense, is really not any different than a TS making landfall - just incredible.
