#1 Postby southerngale » Fri Oct 13, 2006 6:02 pm

U.S. stocks rose on Friday, driving the Dow to another all-time high - 11,960.51 :)

The S&P 500 closed at 1,365.62, a fresh 5 1/2-year high.

11960.51 what does that number remind me of?? Oh wait 5/1/1960 that was the year Gary powers ejected from the dragon lady over Russia!

I read recently that adjusted for inflation it is not really a record high.

that's a debatable point since it's inconceivable that someone could survive a high altitude ejection...

The pressure suit was designed to work with the ejection seat so that a high altitude ejection would be possible. The U2 pilot shot down over Cuba on October 27, 1962 was not so lucky, shrapnel tore his pressurized suit and probably killed him instantly.

There are numerous contrary theories so certainly the subject is debatable.

That's right. Just to equal the previous record in 2000 it would have to be ~20% higher than it is today.

Long term the dow has sort of been following a semi log curve. Not sure what the implications of that are.

I'm not sure there are any implications. Inflation would cause such growth.

M3 data is no longer being reported and that may help conceal inflation.
