Is it just me or is Christmas starting early this year?

#1 Postby wxmann_91 » Mon Oct 30, 2006 12:37 am

My next door neighbor already has Christmas lights up. Went around the neighborhood and there are already a few homes with Christmas lights up.

Went to Costco today, haven't been there in two weeks. Two weeks ago, there was already a Christmas tree near the entrance. Now there's a plethora of Christmas decorations in the food area.

Christmas starts earlier every year.

Retailers are starting Christmas earlier and earlier each year. I remember they did it after Thanksgiving. Costco starts selling their Christmas items after Labor Day. I also saw a Lowe's Christmas commercial recently. I won't be surprised if they do it after New Years.

I don't like when people get rolling too early. I always wait until the day after Thanksgiving before I even begin to pull Christmas decorations out.

Retailers in Houston, like Garden Ridge Pottery (or Garbage Ridge as Dave calls it) Kirkland's, and even some nurseries started stocking Christmas items around August 1. Gross! The decorating crazies are bumping up on the Halloween decorations in recent years. Some have more lights out now than they do at Christmas, and all kinds of Cheap Shite from China (another Davism) strewn over their lawns. Shoot, I have a hard enough time with the annual archeological dig for the Christmas decorations without adding another holiday to deal with. I'll just stick with my fake jack-o-lantern (more CS from China!) in the window.

Walmart is early. I went in there about 3 weeks ago and bought Christmas decorations. They have new ones this year too.

Now, I have all these decorations and missed one minor detail, I do not have a Christmas tree. lol. I used to have the fiber optic artifical tree but lost it to you know who. I may get a real one this year.

I haven't seen the lights up in the neighborhood yet but I have seen the stuff in the stores. It's just wrong to have Christmas stuff out before Halloween.

Pretty soon we'll see xmas celebrated after July 4th, with Labor Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving sharing merch shelving space. You see all of the large retailers just chomping at the bit to pull out all the xmas merch. K-Mart alone has had their xmas trees, decorated to boot, up for over a month now. No lie.

A residence here in town just recently removed last year's red bows from the fence. Other places still had wreaths on the door into March and April. :?:

I start preparing for my religion's most important holiday (that happens to fall on December 25th also, small world) the weekend before hand.

I believe that. I seriously think within a few years Wal-Mart will just leave theirs up all year.

I get so tired of Christmas before Halloween or Thanksgiving that I will not decorate my house and my tree doesn't go up any earlier than a week before the big day. I only have it up till New Year's Eve. It gets packed away before the new year starts.

Some shops here have been on Christmas opening hours since early October, its crazy. It is just like when you are in school and as soon as its the holidays the "Back to school" signs are up.

I'm not going to think about shopping before December, too early before that...

Last night I saw a sign in the grocery store window, announcing the soon arrival of fresh Christmas trees. It all comes down to the almighty dollar, folks. :(
